Segment 1
AND NOW YOUR TWO SONS WHO WERE BORN TO YOU. This is Israel below, whose place is in exile — the sons of the Holy One, blessed be He, who were born among the nations. It has been taught: R. Jose said, Israel, when they are in the holy land of Israel, dwelling in the land, when the Messiah comes, will be together with their brothers who follow after them. For none is called exile except one who dwells in a foreign land; those are the ones called exiles.
Segment 2
“And I will remember My covenant with Jacob” (Lev. 26, 42) — a superfluous Vau. Let the Vau come which was taken away when the Temple was destroyed, and let it be a support to Jacob when this comes about; and the land shall be an everlasting inheritance to the holy son, and his sons shall be in their land, they who dwelt in their land in former times. Happy is their portion.
Segment 3
Now the creatures upon whom these things befell — they shall go as great ones, who were exiled outside the Land, and were exalted, and multiplied. And the supernal Jacob will say to the one below: Your sons who are outside the Land, who were born in exile in every single land — until I enter among the Egyptians and execute judgement upon them for their sins, I do not bring up your son, those who were created in exile, outside the Land, in a far land. And though they are many, and were exalted, they are Mine. When I saw this exile of theirs, I healed their pain and I heard their voice. Reuben — “because the Lord has seen my affliction” (Gen. 29, 32); Simeon — “because the Lord has heard that I am hated” (Ibid. 33). And reckon in your heart as though they were before Me; and when we return from the Egyptians, from executing judgement, we shall bring them up from the land of exile.
