Section 10 of 86 in Vayechi — 3 segments
Segment 1
AND HE SAID TO ME: BEHOLD, I WILL MAKE YOU FRUITFUL AND MULTIPLY YOU. R. Abba discoursed on this verse: Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now grow pale (Is. 29, 22). Now if a man promises good to one like himself and does not fulfil what he said, his face is shamed; how much more so from those above to a man, for if He does not bring all the good that He spoke concerning his children, his face is shamed.
Segment 2
The Holy One, blessed be He, said to him: I am supernal Israel, for it is I who make you fruitful and multiply you. This blessing that He gave me — “and I will give this land to your sons” — was not in the land, was not with them. When the end of the Messiah comes and is completed, the Holy One, blessed be He, says: “Jacob shall not now be ashamed.” Now the face of Jacob above is not shamed for what He said to them, “I will give”; for until now they were not in his hand, and his face was shamed. Now what is his is confirmed from before the Master of heaven and earth.
Segment 3
As we have said, the war of Amalek, when the end is completed, shall be by nothing but strength of hand, as it was “in the day of battle”: “and the Lord shall go forth and fight against those nations” (Zech. 14, 3) — His own war, and no other’s.
