Terms of Service
These are the terms of using The Gematria, written plainly. Using the site or the app means you accept them.
What The Gematria is
The Gematria is a study tool: a gematria search engine over the Hebrew Bible and a digital library of classical Jewish texts, with English translations, daily learning, and audio. It is offered as it stands, maintained with care by one small team that wants it to be excellent — and, like any software, it is not promised to be free of errors or interruptions. Texts and translations are provided for study; nothing here is a halachic ruling, and questions of practice belong with your rav.
Your account
An account is an email address. You are responsible for the address you sign in with and for what is done under your sign-in. You can stop using the service at any time, and you can have your account and its data deleted by asking — how, and what we hold, is on the privacy page. We may close accounts that abuse the service (see fair use below); if a paid membership were ever closed by us without cause, the unused remainder would be refunded.
Free and Premium
The free account opens the search engine and the daily learning texts. Premium membership opens the complete libraries, Siddur, audio, bookmarks, notes, and records; what it costs and what exactly it includes is stated on the pricing page, which is the one authoritative list. Payments are processed by Stripe under their own terms; subscriptions renew until cancelled, and cancelling in the billing portal stops future charges while keeping what was paid for through the period’s end. If something went wrong with a charge, write to us — we would rather fix it than argue about it.
Fair use
The service is for people studying. Do not scrape or bulk-download the site, hammer it with automated requests, probe its security, resell access to it, or use it to harass anyone. The rate limits that protect it for everyone are part of the service.
The texts, and what is ours
The Torah is not ours and never will be. The Hebrew and Aramaic texts are from scholarly and public sources, and the translations are public domain, openly licensed, or our own work — every source is credited on the about page. Our own renderings, the site’s design, its code, and its indexes are ours; you may quote and share reasonably with attribution, and you may not copy the service wholesale or present it as your own.
Liability, plainly
We stand behind the work, and we fix what is broken — that is the whole of what we can promise. To the fullest extent the law allows, the service is provided “as is,” and our liability for any claim connected to it is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms takes away rights the law gives you that cannot be waived.
Changes
If these terms change in substance, the date below changes with them, and a change that matters to paying members will be said to them, not slipped in.
