Section 10 of 32 in Vaetchanan — 2 segments

Segment 1

A precept: to fear (5), in a general way and in a particular way. And we have explained fear: that a man is bound to fear before the Holy One, blessed be He, continually, as it says, “to fear this glorious and awesome Name, the Lord your God” (Deut. 28, 58). And through this fear he will keep himself in his ways. And fear — it is a place that is called fear, because there the dread of the Holy One, blessed be He, rests; it is the fear of the Lord, to fear Him. And this is the mystery of what is written, “and you shall fear My sanctuary”. In this fear there rests a lash of fire, to scourge the wicked who do not keep the precepts of the Torah. And therefore in a general way there is cause to fear.

Segment 2

And afterward in a particular way, when a man knows what the fear of the Lord is; and this is the fear of love, which is the root and the foundation, to love the Holy One, blessed be He. (Afterward) This fear causes him to keep all the commandments of the Torah, so that a man may be a faithful servant toward the Holy One, blessed be He, as is fitting. (Fear.)
