Section 11 of 32 in Vaetchanan — 3 segments

Segment 1

A precept (6): to love. And we have explained the love of the Holy One, blessed be He: that a man must love Him with a great love, like Abraham, who loved the Holy One, blessed be He, with much love, and gave over his body and his soul to Him. From here we have learnt that one who loves the Holy One, blessed be He, fulfils the Ten Utterances above and below. And therefore all those ten trials with which Abraham was tried, and in all of which he stood firm, correspond to the Ten Utterances: every trial is an utterance, and he was tried in that utterance, and he stood firm in it.

Segment 2

And therefore those ten trials — Abraham stood firm in them all, because he was bound and cleaved to the right hand of the Holy One, blessed be He, which is great love. What is the reason it is called great love? Because one who stands in this love is bound to the supernal world. Everlasting love — this is the mystery of the lower world, in which his love is bound; and all is one mystery, without separation. And the mystery of love has been stated. This love rises above all the services of the world; through it the Name of the Holy One, blessed be He, is glorified more than by all, and is blessed. Blessed be He for ever and to all eternity; and the mystery of love has been stated. Thus far. (folio 172b, “fringes,” etc.)

Segment 3

A precept (7): to recite the Shema twice each day — one corresponding to the grade of day, and one corresponding to the grade of night; and to include in the day the grade of night, and to include in the night the grade of day; and this has been stated. And therefore twice each day: one by day and one by night.
