The Zohar · Tzav
Zohar, Tzav 4
Section 4 of 30 in Tzav — 7 segments
Segment 1
Observe: it is written, “This is the law of the burnt offering.” R. Hiya said: This verse we have explained in this manner. (“This is the law”: this is the Community of Israel. “The burnt offering”: that she ascends and is crowned higher and higher, to be bound as is fitting, as far as the place that is called the Holy of Holies.)
Segment 2
(Another explanation.) “This is the law”: this is the Community of Israel. “The burnt offering”: this is the evil thought, which rises upon a man’s will to turn him aside from the way of truth. It is “the burnt offering” — it is that which rises and turns a man aside; and it must be burned in fire, so that no place be given to it to turn him aside.
Segment 3
And therefore, “on the hearth upon the altar all night.” What is night? This is the Community of Israel, who is “this”, because she comes to purify a man from that desire. “On the hearth”: because the river of fire is a place to burn all those who do not stand in their standing; for they bring them into that blazing fire and remove their dominion from the world. And so that it should not rule, it is needful that it be “on the hearth upon the altar all night”, and it is subdued and does not rule.
