While they were sitting, they said: See, night has fallen. He said to R. Simeon: O holy pious one, light of the world, take the tablet of this case, and take a lamp, and write these words; for our time has come, to visit each one within his own grave, until midnight, when the Holy One, blessed be He, enters the Garden to take delight with the righteous, and then each one flies there. And tomorrow we shall be with you, since permission has been given us to complete the present that they are sending you. They flew away. R. Simeon wept and cried aloud.
Segment 2
He opened and said: “A lovely hind and a graceful doe; let her breasts satisfy you at all times; with her love be ravished always” (Prov. 5, 19). Torah, Torah, light of all the worlds! How many seas and streams and springs and fountains spread out from you to every side! From you is all; upon you stand those above and those below; the supernal light (and this) issues from you. Torah, Torah, what shall I say to you? You are a lovely hind and a graceful doe; (beside) above and below are your beloved ones. Who can be worthy to be nourished from you as is fitting? Torah, Torah, the delight of your Master, who can disclose and tell your secrets and your hidden things? He wept, and put his head between his knees, and kissed the dust.
Segment 3
Meanwhile he saw a number of images of the Companions round about him. He said to him: Do not fear, son of Yohai; do not fear, holy lamp; write, and rejoice in the joy of your Master. He wrote all those words that he heard on that night, and pored over them and repeated them, and did not forget one word. And that lamp shone before him all that night, until the morning came. When the morning came, he lifted his eyes and saw a light shining in the firmament; he lowered his eyes downward. He turned back as before, and saw a light in the whole firmament, which shone and rose up in that light with the image of the house, in many designs. R. Simeon rejoiced; and in a moment that light was hidden away.
