Segment 1

(And in the first composition:) “Mingled with beaten oil”: with oil — with that oil which flows and issues from above. R. Simeon said: You have spoken well. But what is “beaten”? Rather, it is a supernal mystery. For since it is oil, what is “beaten”? Rather, it is a hint that alludes to union with the female: to draw toward her beaten oil, as is fitting for her — it can only be beaten (a variant reads: Rather, it is a supernal mystery, which alludes to drawing toward her beaten oil, as is fitting for her) — to bring it out of the olives, which are the limbs of the body, and to draw that flow from above into each and every limb. (a variant adds: It can only be beaten.)

Segment 2

And it is the Righteous One who does the beating, and brings out from all those supernal limbs, which are holy olives, the anointing oil, with complete desire, toward his female. And if it is not beaten, that oil will not come forth except without the desire of the limbs; and that flow — the female has no pleasure from it, and it is not as is fitting, until she is mingled with it from all the limbs. And therefore, “mingled with beaten oil”: that she may have pleasure and be nourished from it. (The Faithful Shepherd said.)

Segment 3

Ra'aya Meheimna. (This belongs below, at the end of side c (it seems to me it should read: side b).) The Faithful Shepherd said: Holy Lamp, how sweet are your words! Assuredly it was said here, “mingled with beaten oil”; and it was said there, of the Oral Torah: mingled with Scripture, with the Mishnah, with the Talmud. And further, there is a second mystery of “mingled with beaten oil”: assuredly the Torah is not mingled, except for one who endures many beatings for its sake. As the sages of the Mishnah have explained: the Torah is sustained only in one who kills himself over it. And further they said: At the time that you beat a path with your feet from city to city, you will merit to see the face of the Shekinah.
