Section 75 of 129 in Pinchas — 4 segments
Segment 1
Observe: Phineas stood before the strong judgement of Isaac and closed the breach; therefore the mystery of Isaac was completed in Phineas. He stood before the breach, as it is written, “Then Phineas stood up and wrought judgement” (Ps. 106, 30). He stood in the breach before the judgement of Isaac, to protect Israel. (a variant reads: Phineas stood before the strong judgement of Isaac to protect Israel, as it is written, “Then Phineas stood up and wrought judgement” (Ps. 106, 30). What is “stood up”? That he stood in the breach before the judgement of Isaac; therefore the mystery of Isaac was completed in Phineas.) And therefore this one is comprised in that one in the reckoning.
Segment 2
And if you say: the reckoning depends only on her eyes, and here the reckoning is above, in Isaac? But surely it is so: because Isaac hangs upon and is employed (a variant reads: and is drawn out) in that place which is the eyes, where judges judge the judgements of the whole world. For her eyes are the seventy seats, the place of the judgements of the world, and they are called the Sanhedrin. And therefore it is all one, because Isaac and they go together, and all is well.
Segment 3
Now Phineas stood before the stern judgement of Isaac to shield the world and to close the breach, and therefore Phineas here corresponds to Isaac, and here the Left was united with the Right. HE TURNED BACK MY ANGER, ETC. We have here mentioned the three chiefs of Gehinnom, “Destruction”, “Anger”, and “Wrath”. When he saw the wrath stretching forth from the side of Isaac, he invested himself with [the might of] Isaac and seized thaat wrath like a man who takes hold of another and turns him back.
