Segment 1א׳

אָמַר רִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר לַאֲבוּהִי, הָא שְׁמַעְנָא אִלֵּין שַׁיְיפִין אֲטִימִין, בְּרָזָא דְּקָרְבְּנִין. שַׁיְיפִין אַחֲרָנִין, רָזָא דִּלְהוֹן מַאי. אָמַר לֵיהּ רִבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן לְרִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר, אֶלְעָזָר בְּרִי, כָּל שְׁאַר שַׁיְיפִין דִּלְגוֹ, רָזָא עִלָּאָה אִיהוּ.

R. Eleazar said to his father: I have heard of these closed limbs, in the mystery of the offerings. The other limbs — what is their mystery? R. Simeon said to R. Eleazar: Eleazar, my son, all the other inner limbs are a supernal mystery.

Segment 2ב׳

תָּא חֲזֵי, לִבָּא הָא אִתְּמַר, אֲבָל לֵב דָּא אִיהוּ נוּרָא דְּדָלִיק, וְאִלְמָלֵא דְּזַמִּין לְגַבֵּיהּ מַלְכָּא עִלָּאָה כַּנְפֵי רֵיאָה, דְּאַתְיָין לְקַמֵּיהּ רוּחָא, מֵרוּחָא דְּנָשִׁיב מִגּוֹ בּוּסְמִין עִלָּאִין, הֲוָה אוֹקִיד לְעָלְמָא בְּרִגְעָא חֲדָא.

Observe: the heart — this has been said. But this heart is a burning fire; and were it not that the supernal King had prepared for it the wings of the lung, which bring breath before it, from the breath that blows from within the supernal spices, it would burn up the world in a single moment.

פָּתַח וְאָמַר, (בראשית י״ט:כ״ד) וַיְיָ הִמְטִיר עַל סְדוֹם וְעַל עֲמוֹרָה גָּפְרִית וָאֵשׁ, אֲמַאי אוֹקִיד לוֹן. בְּגִין דְּכַנְפֵי רֵיאָה לָא נְשִׁיבוּ בְּהַהִיא שַׁעֲתָא. וְסִתְרָא דְּכַנְפֵי רֵיאָה, דָּא (תהילים ס״ח:י״ד) כַּנְפֵי יוֹנָה נֶחְפָּה בַכֶּסֶף וְאִינּוּן רְפָאֵל, וְצַדְקִיאֵל. וְעָלַיְיהוּ אִתְּמַר, (תהילים ק״ד:ד׳) עוֹשֶׂה מַלְאָכָיו רוּחוֹת, לְנַשְׁבָא תָּדִיר קַמֵּי מַלְכָּא (ס"א לבא).

He opened and said: “Then the Lord caused to rain upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire” (Gen. 19, 24). Why did He burn them? Because the wings of the lung did not blow at that hour. And the secret of the wings of the lung is this: “the wings of a dove covered with silver” (Ps. 68, 14); and they are Raphael and Zadkiel. And of them it is said, “Who makes His angels winds” (Ps. 104, 4), to blow constantly before the King (a variant reads: the heart).

רעיא מהימנא וּבְחִבּוּרָא קַדְמָאָה, אָמַר רַעְיָא מְהֵימָנָא, בּוּצִּינָא קַדִישָׁא, כָּל מַה דְּאַמָרְת שַׁפִּיר, אֲבָל מוֹחָא אִיהוּ מַיִם, לֵב אִיהוּ אֵשׁ, וְתַרְוַויְיהוּ אִיהוּ רַחֲמֵי וְדִינָא, דָּא כִּסֵּא רַחֲמֵי, וְדָא כִּסֵּא דִּינָא. וְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא מֶלֶךְ, עוֹמֵד מִכִּסֵא דִּין, דְּאִיהוּ לֵב. וְיוֹשֵׁב עַל כִּסֵּא רַחֲמִים, דְּאִיהוּ מוֹחָא.

Ra'aya Meheimna. And in the first composition, the Faithful Shepherd said: Holy Lamp, all that you have said is well; but the brain is water, the heart is fire, and the two of them are mercy and judgement: this one a throne of mercy, and that one a throne of judgement. And the Holy One, blessed be He, the King, rises from the throne of judgement, which is the heart, and sits upon the throne of mercy, which is the brain.

וְכַד חוֹבִין מִתְרַבִּין עַל אֵבָרִים, וְעַל עַרְקִין דְּלִבָּא, דְּאִיהוּ כֻּרְסְיָיא דְּדִינָא. אִתְּמַר בְּלִבָּא, (אסתר ז׳:ז׳) וְהַמֶּלֶךְ קָם בַּחֲמָתוֹ מִמִּשְׁתֵּה הַיַּיִן, דְּאִיהוּ יִינָא דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא. וּבְזִמְנָא דְּכַנְפֵי רֵיאָה נָשְׁבִין עַל לִבָּא, (יחזקאל א׳:כ״ד) וָאֶשְׁמַע אֶת קוֹל כַּנְפֵיהֶם (אסתר ז׳:י׳) וַחֲמַת הַמֶּלֶךְ שָׁכָכָה. דִּתְרֵין כַּנְפֵי רֵיאָה, (שמות כח) וְהָיוּ הַכְּרוּבִים פּוֹרְשֵׂי כְנָפַיִם לְמַעְלָה סוֹכְכִים בְּכַנְפֵיהֶם עַל הַכַּפֹּרֶת, דָּא כַּפּוֹרְתָא דְּלִבָּא.

And when sins multiply upon the limbs, and upon the veins of the heart, which is the throne of judgement, it is said of the heart, “And the king arose in his wrath from the banquet of wine” (Esther 7, 7) — which is the wine of the Torah. And at the time that the wings of the lung blow upon the heart — “And I heard the noise of their wings” (Ezek. 1, 24) — “then was the king's wrath assuaged” (Esther 7, 10). For the two wings of the lung: “And the cherubim shall spread out their wings on high, screening the mercy seat with their wings” (Ex. 25, 20) — this is the mercy seat of the heart.
