Section 68 of 129 in Pinchas — 7 segments
Segment 1
While they were sitting, behold, the eagle came to them with a single lily in its mouth, and cast it before them, and went off. They saw and rejoiced. R. Phineas said: Did I not tell you that this eagle comes and goes on a mission of its Master? This lily is the Shushan Eduth of which I spoke, and the Holy One, blessed be He, has sent it to us.
Segment 2
He opened as before and said: “For the Leader; upon Shushan Eduth; Michtam of David, to teach” (Ps. 60, 1). And Shushan Eduth — what testimony does it testify? Rather, this lily is a testimony to the work of creation, and it is a testimony to the Community of Israel, a testimony to the supernal unity; and so it is. For this lily has thirteen leaves, and all of them stand on one stem; and it has five strong leaves outside, which cover this lily and shield it.
Segment 3
And all is in the mystery of wisdom. Thirteen leaves: these are the thirteen attributes of mercy, which the Community of Israel inherits from above, and all of them are held in one stem (a variant adds: which are the thirteen orderings of the lower beard of the Long of Countenance, which are the thirteen supernal orderings of the Small of Countenance); and it is one covenant, and the pattern of the covenant (a variant reads: of the unity), the foundation of all. The five strong ones that surround it — these are the fifty gates, the five hundred years (a variant adds: of yesod; yesod (a variant adds: in the Temple) the holy covenant) of the tree of life, which goes through them.
