Section 57 of 129 in Pinchas — 3 segments

Segment 1

That is what is written: “I have come into my garden, my sister, my bride; I have eaten my honeycomb (ya'ari) with my honey, I have drunk my wine with my milk” (S. S. 5, 1); and afterwards, “Eat, O friends.” “I have eaten my honeycomb” — this is the prayer said sitting. “With my honey” — this is the recitation of the Shema. “I have eaten my honeycomb” — this is the prayer said sitting: that forest (ya'ar) of Lebanon, “Who forms light” (a variant reads: ministering ones) “and the ofanim and the holy Hayyoth” (a variant adds: all of them holy). All these are called a forest — the trees and the plantings within it. “With my honey” — this is the recitation of the Shema, which is the sweetness of all, with many honeycombs and sweetnesses.

Segment 2

“I have drunk my wine” — this is the prayer said standing, the goodness (a variant reads: the drawing) of the supernal wine that is preserved. And this is in the first three blessings. “With my milk” — these are the last three blessings; and these are comprised in one another. Up to here, the meal of the King. After the King has eaten, “Eat, O friends” — above; “drink, and drink deep, O beloved” — below.

Segment 3

And therefore there is no obligation of food except after prayer. At the afternoon prayer (a variant adds: in the evening), before the prayer — what is the reason? Because before harsh judgement is present, while the face of the King is shining, one should say “A Psalm of praise; of David”, in this order of food. For after judgement rests and hangs over the world, it is not the hour. R. Phineas came and kissed him.
