Segment 1א׳

הֵיכָלָא חֲמִישָׁאָה. הֵיכָלָא דָּא, אִיהוּ הֵיכָלָא דְּאִקְרֵי (מצורע נ"ד ע"א) שְׁאוֹ"ל, לָקֳבֵל הַהוּא שְׁמָא דְּאִקְרֵי עָרֵל, וְהָא אוֹקִימְנָא דְּדָא אִיהוּ רָזָא דְּעָרְלָה. בְּהַאי הֵיכָלָא, אִית חַד פִּתְחָא, וְחַד מְמָנָא עָלֵיהּ. וְדָא אִיהוּ מְמָנָא לְאַתְעֲרָא תָּדִיר קִטְרוּגָא עַל עָלְמָא, וְהַאי רוּחָא אִקְרֵי אֵיבָ"ה, בְּגִין דִּשְׁמָא דְּהַאי פִּתְחָא אֵיבָ"ה שְׁמֵיהּ, וְסִימָנִיךְ (בראשית ג׳:ט״ו) וְאֵיבָה אָשִׁית בֵּינְךָ וּבֵין הָאִשָּׁה וְגוֹ'.

The fifth palace. This palace is the palace that is called (Metzora, folio 54a) Sheol, corresponding to that name that is called Uncircumcised; and we have explained that this is the mystery of the foreskin. In this palace there is one door, and one chieftain over it. And this is the chieftain who stands to arouse accusation against the world continually; and this spirit is called Enmity, because the name of this door is Enmity — and your sign is, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman,” etc. (Gen. 3, 15).

Segment 2ב׳

בְּהַאי הֵיכָלָא קַיְּימָא חַד רוּחָא דְּשַׁלִּיט עַל כֹּלָּא, וְהַאי אִקְרֵי שׁוֹדֵ"ד. וְאִיהוּ (שוד) (ישעיהו נ״ט:ז׳) שׁוֹד וָשֶׁבֶר. וְדָא הוּא שׁוֹדֵד בְּטוּרֵי רָמָּאֵי, גּוֹ טִנָרִין וְטוּרִין. מֵהֵיכָלָא דָּא יַנְקֵי כָּל אִינּוּן מְשַׁדְדֵי וּמְשַׁצֵי בְּחָרְבְּנִין. וּמֵהָכָא נָפְקִין, כָּל אִינּוּן דְּקַטְלֵי בְּסַיְיפִין וְרוּמְחִין, וְאַזְלִין בָּתַר לַהַט הַחֶרֶב הַמִּתְהַפֶּכֶת לְשֵׁיצָאָה כֹּלָּא.

In this palace there stands one spirit that rules over all, and this one is called Spoiler. And he is (spoil) “spoil and destruction” (Isa. 59, 7). And this is the spoiler in the high mountains, among the rocks and the mountains. From this palace all those who spoil and lay waste with devastations draw their sustenance. And from here go forth all those who kill with swords and with spears, and who go after the flame of the sword that turns every way, to destroy all.

מֵהַאי נָפִיק רוּחָא אַחֲרָא, וְאִקְרֵי שׁוֹד. וְכַד שַׁלִּיט כַּפְנָא עַל עָלְמָא, הַאי רוּחָא דְּאִקְרֵי שׁוֹ"ד, אִיהוּ אִשְׁתְּכַח. וְרוּחָא אַחֲרָא אִשְׁתָּתַּף עִמֵּיהּ, דְּאִקְרֵי כָּפָ"ן. וְאִלֵּין אַזְלֵי בְּעָלְמָא, וּמִשְׁתַּכְחֵי לָקֳבֵל בְּנֵי נָשָׁא, וְהַיְינוּ דִּכְתִיב, (איוב ה׳:כ״ב) לְשֹׁד וּלְכָפָן תִּשְׂחָק. וְאִלֵּין עַבְדִין קִטְרוּגָא לִבְנֵי נָשָׁא, וּמְשַׁדְדֵי לְכֹלָּא. חַד דְּאִקְרֵי שׁוֹד, דְּבָתַר דְּאָזִיל בְּגוֹ טוּרִין רָמָאִין, וְשָׁדִיד וְחָרִיב וְשֵׁצֵי כֹּלָּא. כְּדֵין תָּב וְשָׁדַד לִבְנֵי נָשָׁא, וּמֵתִין בְּחוּלְשָׁא דִּילֵיהּ. וְכַד אַכְלֵי בְּנֵי נָשָׁא, לָא שַׂבְעִין, בְּגִין דְּאִיהוּ שַׁלְטָא בְּעָלְמָא.

From this one there goes forth another spirit, and it is called Spoil. And when famine rules in the world, this spirit that is called Spoil is found; and another spirit joins with him, which is called Famine. And these go about in the world, and are found over against men; and this is what is written, “At spoil and famine you shall laugh” (Job 5, 22). And these make accusation against men, and spoil all. One is called Spoil: after he has gone among the high mountains, and has spoiled and laid waste and destroyed all, then he returns and spoils men, and they die of his weakness. And when men eat, they are not satisfied, because he rules in the world.

Segment 4ד׳

וּבְהַהוּא זִמְנָא, מַאן דְּעָבִיד חֶסֶד עִם בְּנֵי נָשָׁא, וְיָהִיב לוֹן לְמֵיכַל וּלְמִשְׁתֵּי, כְּדַאי אִיהוּ לְדַחְיָיא לוֹן לְאִלֵּין תְּרֵין רוּחִין לְבַר, דְּלָא שַׁלְטֵי בְּעָלְמָא. וְכַד יִשְׂרָאֵל לָא עַבְדֵּי חֶסֶד עִם בְּנֵי נָשָׁא, וּשְׁאַר עַמִּין עַבְדֵּי חֶסֶד בְּעָלְמָא. כְּדֵין אִלֵּין תְּרֵין רוּחִין מִתְבַסְּמִין (ס"א לשאר עמין ומתקפי וכו') מִלַּיְיהוּ, וּמִתְקְפֵי עָלַיְיהוּ דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל. בְּגִין דְּהָא כְּדֵין אִתְקַף הַהוּא סִטְרָא אַחֲרָא, וְיִשְׂרָאֵל אִתְכַפְּיָין.

And at that time, one who does kindness with men, and gives them to eat and to drink, is worthy to thrust these two spirits outside, that they may not rule in the world. And when Israel do not do kindness with men, and the rest of the nations do kindness in the world, then these two spirits are sweetened (a variant reads: for the rest of the nations, and they prevail, etc.) by their words, and they prevail over Israel; because then that other side is strengthened, and Israel are subdued.

Segment 5ה׳

וְכַד יִשְׂרָאֵל עַבְדֵּי חֶסֶד, אִתְכַּפְיָא הַהוּא סִטְרָא אַחֲרָא וְאִתְחַלָּשׁ, וְסִטְרָא דִּקְדוּשָּׁה אִתְקַף. וְכַד יִשְׂרָאֵל לָא מִתְעָרֵי בְּחֶסֶד, אִינּוּן תְּרִין רוּחִין (ד"א מתבסמי, חד אתבסם להו לשאר עמין) וּמִתְהַפְּכֵי לְאַכְפְּיָיא לוֹן לְיִשְׂרָאֵל, וּכְדֵין אִינּוּן בִּרְכָאָן דְּנַחְתֵּי מִלְּעֵילָּא, מִסְּטָר יְמִינָא, יַנְקֵי לוֹן שְׁאַר עַמִּין. (ד"א וקיימא לההוא סטרא) וְהֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב, (שיר השירים א׳:ו׳) שָׂמוּנִי נוֹטֵרָה אֶת הַכְּרָמִים, אִלֵּין שְׁאַר עַמִּין. כַּרְמִי שֶׁלִּי לא נָטַרְתִּי, אִלֵּין יִשְׂרָאֵל. בְּגִין דִּשְׁאַר עַמִּין מַשְׁכֵי לֵיהּ בְּגַוַויְיהוּ, בְּאִינּוּן חֲסָדִים דְּעַבְדִּין עִם בְּנֵי נָשָׁא. וְיִשְׂרָאֵל מְרַחֲקָן לֵיהּ מִגַוַויְיהוּ, בְּגִין דְּלָא מִשְׁתַּדְּלֵי בְּאִינּוּן חֲסָדִים כִּשְׁאַר עַמִּין.

And when Israel do kindness, that other side is subdued and weakened, and the side of holiness is strengthened. And when Israel are not aroused with kindness, those two spirits (a variant reads: are sweetened, one is sweetened for them, for the rest of the nations) turn about to subdue Israel; and then those blessings that come down from above, from the right side, the rest of the nations draw. (A variant reads: and it stands for that side.) And this is what is written, “They made me keeper of the vineyards” — these are the rest of the nations; “my own vineyard I have not kept” — these are Israel (S. S. 1, 6). Because the rest of the nations draw it among themselves by those kindnesses that they do with men; and Israel keep it far from among themselves, because they do not occupy themselves with those kindnesses as the rest of the nations do.
