Segment 1
And all those who are stamped with the signs of the Holy One, blessed be He, and His Shekinah are stamped on the weekdays with the sign of the phylacteries and with the sign of circumcision, and are stamped with Remember and Observe on the Sabbath. They are stamped with the Written Law, which was given from the right, and with the Oral Law, which was given from the left. And the Holy One, blessed be He, is Remember from the right and Observe from the left; and the Shekinah is remembrance from the right and observance from the left. These are the phylactery of the head of a man and the phylactery of the hand. And so the Shekinah: “The law of the Lord is perfect” (Ps. 19, 8), and His precept. And this is from the side of the Central Column, which comprises judgement and mercy — Remember and Observe. She is called remembrance and observance; and in all the precepts she is of equal weight with Him in grade.
Segment 2
But from the side of chesed, the Holy One, blessed be He, is Remember and the Shekinah is Observe — as the sages of the Mishnah have explained: Remember is for the male, and Observe for the bride. For on the right and on the left the branches divide, like the wings of the lung, which are divided above. Corresponding to them are the Hayoth: “and their faces and their wings were divided above” (Ezek. 1, 11); and corresponding to the open sections of the Scroll of the Law. Below, the two of them are in one union, like the closed sections of the Scroll of the Law, where there is no division. And therefore, in the place of union, which is the body, it is like the spine of the palm branch: if its leaves are split off or divided, it is unfit.
Segment 3
With how many marks does the Holy One, blessed be He, mark Israel, to be known before the angels — whether those of the right, which depend upon the Holy One, blessed be He, or those of the left, which depend upon the Shekinah, or those which depend upon the Holy One, blessed be He, and His Shekinah in one union. Indeed, those who have Torah in them are stamped with chesed, and those who have precept in them are stamped with gevurah; and those who are masters of phylacteries, and of the sign of the Sabbath, and of the sign of the covenant, are stamped with Zaddik.
