“Forty stripes he may give him, he shall not exceed,” etc. (Deut. 25, 3). This precept is to flog the wicked one, who is Samael, whom the Holy One, blessed be He, is destined to smite with fifty stripes, because he made himself a god. Let the unification come, with which Israel unify Him every day, in twenty-five letters, and let Him smite with them the one who set himself up as a god, and who is nothing but a filthy servant. And for those who sinned with He, the Holy One, blessed be He, appointed them (to smite) with Yod-He-Vau, which are forty less one. And with this Name the Holy One, blessed be He, smote ten plagues upon Adam, and ten upon Eve, and ten upon the serpent, and nine upon the earth; for they all sinned with the letter He. And therefore, “because you have done this” (Gen. 3, 14). (Thus far.)
