Segment 1

The Temple, and the name of Messiah, are called by the Name of the Tetragrammaton. And this is the four faces of Adam. And those of the tribe of Levi come forth from the Hayoth, which are the rest of the tribes, and they entered into the portion of Adam, which are his four faces. And Moses is Adam, in the likeness of that primordial Adam who is above: “What is his name, and what is his son’s name?” (Prov. 30, 4). And therefore the priests and the Levites have their sustenance by the hand of the King, eating at his table; while the rest of the King’s hosts are each given to eat in the house of his own dwelling. And the Faithful Shepherd is as a son of the King, nearer to the King than those who eat at his table; for of all the children of the kingdom there is none so near to the King as his son.

Segment 2

The Holy Lamp arose and said: Elder, Elder! By your words it is known who you are. You are the primordial Adam. “What is his name” is said of you; “what is his son’s name” is said of the Faithful Shepherd. And because he has renewed many new things in the Torah, gladness is prepared for you: “A wise son makes a glad father” (Prov. 10, 1). (…).

Segment 3

Faithful Shepherd, in this portion your gathering to that world was mentioned, as it is written, “Go up into this mountain of Abarim, mount Nebo,” etc., “and behold it, and be gathered to your people,” etc., “as Aaron your brother was gathered,” etc. (Num. 27, 12). And in this portion it falls to you to return to the world and to live again, and to enter the land of Israel, and to be joined in this portion with your bride, of whom it is written, “Behold, I give him My covenant of peace” (Num. 25, 12). And therefore the Holy One, blessed be He, did not say to you here, Go down, but Go up; for from it you shall enter the land of Israel.
