וְלֹא עוֹד, אֶלָּא מַה דַּהֲוַת בְּרַתָּא דְּמַלְכָּא, י' עַל הו"ה, דִּכְלִילָן בַּאֲבָהָן, ה' קַדְמָאָה בְּאַבְרָהָם. ה' תִּנְיָינָא בְּיִצְחָק. ו' בְּיַעֲקֹב. וַהֲוַת י' רֵישָׁא עָלַיְיהוּ. אִתְּמַר, (איכה ה׳:ט״ז) נָפְלָה עֲטֶרֶת רֹאשֵׁנוּ. וְאַמְתִּילוּ רַבָּנָן מְתָלָא, לְמַלְכָּא דְּהֲוָה לֵיהּ עֲטָרָה עַל רֵישֵׁיהּ, וְאִילָן יָאֶה קֳדָמֵיהּ, אַתְיָא לֵיהּ שְׁמוּעָה בִּישָׁא, אַרְמֵי עֲטָרָה מֵעַל רֵישֵׁיהּ. וּמַה דַּהֲוַת י' עַל הו"ה. י' לְעֵילָּא, אִתְהַדָּר הוה"י, י' לְתַתָּא. וּבְגִין דָּא אָמַר דָּוִד, (תהילים קי״ח:כ״ב-כ״ג) אֶבֶן מָאֲסוּ הַבּוֹנִים הָיְתָה לְרֹאשׁ פִּנָּה מֵאֵת יְיָ' הָיְתָה זֹּאת.
And moreover, that which was the daughter of the King, Yod upon He-Vau-He, which are comprised in the patriarchs — the first He in Abraham, the second He in Isaac, the Vau in Jacob, and the Yod was the head over them — of this it is said, “The crown is fallen from our head” (Lam. 5, 16). And the Rabbis made a parable of it: to a king who had a crown upon his head and a fair tree before him; bad tidings came to him, and he cast the crown from off his head. And that which was Yod upon He-Vau-He, the Yod above, was turned about into He-Vau-He-Yod, the Yod below. And therefore David said, “The stone which the builders rejected is become the chief corner-stone. This is the Lord’s doing” (Ps. 118, 22-23).
