Segment 1
The heavenly voice is in exile until you come to her, for you are her voice; for every woman is the daughter of her husband, as it is said, “and she became a daughter to him”. She is betrothed to you; as yet you have not gone with her (a variant reads: she has entered with him) to the canopy.
Segment 2
It is said, “the betrothed maiden cried, and there was none to save her”. So the Shekinah: her Mother (a variant reads: the supernal) cries over her son, and there is none to save her, until the Central Pillar comes for her sake, who is the saviour. For it is on her account that it is said, “Behold, your king comes to you, he is righteous and saved” (Zech. 9, 9). He is a saviour above, and you below. And because you are in his likeness, it is said of you, “But as for you, stand here by Me” (Deut. 5, 28); for all Israel returned to their tents, and you did not, until the last redemption. And who caused this? The mixed multitude; for on their account, “and he cast the tablets out of his hands” (Ex. 32, 19). And from that hour she fell, and she has not been redeemed from the mixed multitude, of whom it is said, “and a mixed multitude went up also with them” (Ex. 12, 38). In all this they have not been separated from Israel, nor the handmaid from her mistress, until the last redemption.
Segment 3
You are a son of the King; in your own likeness it is said of the Central Pillar in everything. Your gladness shall be as his gladness, when he comes to redeem his bride: “And he is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,” etc. (Ps. 19, 6). For her garments in exile are dark, and at the time when she is clothed in them she says, “Look not upon me, that I am swarthy” (S. S. 1, 6). And these are the shells: Destruction, Anger, and Wrath, an evil female, an evil handmaid, Shabbethai — “and a handmaid that is heir to her mistress” (Prov. 30, 23) — who is the Sabbath Queen. Destruction, Anger, and Wrath encircle the three patriarchs.
