His palate: in inscribed letters that are engraved in its crowns, congealed (a variant reads: engraved) — Aleph-Heth-He-Ayin in the throat. Aleph: which drives kings away, “and removes kings, and sets up kings” (Dan. 2, 21). Heth: which drives and descends, and ascends and crowns; pressed down in fire, engraved in spirit. He: the suckling of the Mother, which inclines toward the female, spreads out to the great female, in the longing for the holy city (a variant reads: until they are bound); places are bound one to another, as you say, “the mountain of myrrh, the hill of frankincense” (S. S. 4, 6). Ayin: the brightness of the mould, engraved in the mould; runners of branches are joined together, to its sides, to the winds, engraved.
Segment 2
And behold, in the mysteries of the letters of King Solomon, these four letters are crowned with four — Gimel-Yod-Kaph-Koph — in the palate, as you say, “as the palate tastes food”; “Can that which has no savour be eaten without salt?” etc. (Job 6, 6). And it is written, “And the work of righteousness shall be peace” (Isa. 32, 17). “More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold; sweeter also,” etc. (Ps. 19, 10-11). Sweeter, assuredly.
Segment 3
King David said, “Moreover by them is Your servant warned,” etc. I testify concerning myself that all my days I have taken heed of them, not to go astray in them, except one day when I bound the crowns of the King in the cave of Meron, and I saw a lamp of fire blazing across the breadth of Meron (a variant reads: of the cave), and I trembled. From that day I have taken heed of them in my mind, and I have not let them go all my days. Happy is the portion of him who takes heed of the sweetness of the King, and tastes of them as is fitting. Of this it is written, “O taste and see that the Lord is good,” etc. (Ps. 34, 9). And it is written, “Come, eat of my bread,” etc. (Prov. 9, 5).
