Segment 1א׳

אִלֵּין שַׂעְרֵי לָא חַפְיָין עַל שִׂפְוָון, וְשִׂפְוָון כֻּלְּהוּ סוּמָקִין כְּוַורְדָא. דִּכְתִיב, (שיר השירים ה׳:י״ג) שִׂפְתוֹתָיו שׁוֹשַׁנִּים. שִׂפְוָון מְרַחְשָׁן גְּבוּרָה, מְרַחְשָׁן חָכְמְתָא. בְּאִינּוּן שִׂפְוָון תַּלְיָין טַב וּבִישׁ, חַיֵּי וּמוֹתָא. מֵאִלֵּין שִׂפְוָון תַּלְיָין מָארֵיהוֹן דְּאַתְעָרוּתָא, דְּכַד מְרַחֲשִׁין אִלֵּין שִׂפְוָון, מִתְעָרִין כֹּלָּא לְמִגְזַר (מארי) דִּינָא, בְּכָל בָּתֵּי דִּינִין, (דמדוריהון בהון, ובגין כך) דְּאִקְרוּן עִירִין. דִּכְתִיב, (דניאל ד׳:י״ד) בִּגְזֵרַת עִירִין פִּתְגָּמָא וּבְמֵאמַר וְגוֹ'. (ובמימר קדישין שאלתא)

These hairs do not cover the lips, and the lips are all red as a rose, as it is written, “His lips are as lilies” (S. S. 5, 13). The lips murmur gevurah, murmur chochmah. On these lips hang good and evil, life and death. From these lips hang the lords of arousal; for when these lips murmur, all are aroused to decree (a variant adds: the lords of) judgement in all the courts of judgement (a variant adds: whose dwelling is in them, and therefore), who are called irin (watchers), as it is written, “The matter is by the decree of the watchers, and by the word,” etc. (Dan. 4, 14). (a variant adds: and the sentence by the word of the holy ones)

Segment 2ב׳

מַאי עִיר. בְּסִפְרָא דְּאַגַדְתָּא, כְּמָה דְאַתְּ אָמֵר, (שמואל א כ״ח:ט״ז) וַיְהִי עָרֶךָ. דְּמִתְעֲרִין דִּינִין לְאִינּוּן דְּלָא אִתְרְחִימוּ לְעֵילָּא, בְּגִין כָּךְ מִתְעָרִין אִלֵּין דְּאִינּוּן מָארֵי דְּבָבוּ, (ס"א להו) (בכלהו) וְעִם כָּל דָּא בִּתְרֵי גְּוָונֵי בְּרַחֲמֵי וְדִינָא, וְעַל דָּא אִקְרוּן עִיר וְקַדִּישׁ דִּינָא וְרַחֲמֵי.

What is ir? In the Book of Agadah: as you say, “and has become your adversary (arecha)” (I Sam. 28, 16) — for judgements are aroused against those who are not loved above. Therefore these are aroused, who are lords of enmity (a variant adds: against them) (a variant adds: in all of them); and with all this, in two colours, in mercy and judgement. And therefore they are called “a watcher and a holy one” — judgement and mercy.

Segment 3ג׳

וּבְאִלֵּין שִׂפְוָון, אִתְחֲזֵי פּוּמָא כַּד אִתְפְּתַח. רוּחָא דְּנָפִיק מִן פּוּמָא, בֵּיהּ מִתְלַבְּשִּׁין כַּמָה אֶלֶף וְרִבְבָן. וְכַד אִתְפְּשַּׁט, מִתְלַבְּשִּׁין בֵּיהּ נְבִיאָן מְהֵימְנֵי. וְכֻלְּהוּ פֶּה יְיָ' אִקְרוּן. כַּד מִלִּין נָפְקִין מִן פּוּמָא, וּמִתְרַחֲשִׁין בְּשִׂפְוָון, מִתְנַהֲרִין לְכֻלְּהוּ תִּמְנֵי סָרֵי אַלְפִין עָלְמִין, עַד דְּמִתְקַטְּרִין כֻּלְּהוּ כַּחֲדָא, בְּתַמְנֵיסָר אוֹרְחִין וּשְׁבִילִין, דְּאִשְׁתְּמוֹדְעָן.

And in these lips the mouth is seen when it is opened. The spirit that goes forth from the mouth — in it many thousands and myriads are clothed. And when it spreads, the faithful prophets are clothed in it, and all of them are called “the mouth of the Lord”. When words go forth from the mouth and are murmured in the lips, they shine to all the eighteen thousand worlds, until they are all bound together in the eighteen ways and paths that are made known.
