Segment 1

In the parting of the hair one path is joined with the path of the Ancient of Days, and from it all the paths of the commandments of the Torah are separated. (a variant adds: And are appointed over them.) All the lords of wailing and howling hang on each and every lock, and they spread a net for the wicked who do not know those paths. This is what is written, “The way of the wicked is as darkness” (Prov. 4, 19). And all these hang on the strong locks, and therefore all of them are strong. And we have explained that in those that are smooth are joined the lords of the balance (a variant reads: of love), as it is written, “All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth” (Ps. 25, 10). And all this because they draw from the hidden brains, from the courses of the brain.
