Segment 1א׳

עַל כֵּן אֲחִידָן מִלָּי דָּא בְּדָא, וּמִתְפָּרְשָׁן מִלִּין דִּסְתִּימִין בְּעַתִּיקָא קַדִּישָׁא, סְתִימָא דְּכָל סְתִימִין, וְהֵיךְ אֲחִידָן אִלֵּין בְּאִלֵּין. מִכָּאן לְהָלְאָה, מִלִּין דִּזְעֵיר אַנְפִּין, אִינּוּן דְּלָא אִתְגַּלְּיָין בְּאִדָּרָא. אִינּוּן דַּהֲווֹ סְתִימִין בְּלִבָּאי, וְתַמָּן לָא אִתְּקָנוּ. (עד כאן סתימן מלין) הַשְׁתָּא אִתְתְּקָנוּ וְאִתְגַּלְיָין, וְכֻלְּהוּ מִלִּין סְתִימִין, וּבְרִירִין כֻּלְּהוּ. זַכָּאָה חוּלָקִי, וְאִינּוּן דְּיַרְתּוּ יְרוּתָא דָּא, דִּכְתִּיב, (תהילים קמ״ד:ט״ו) אַשְׁרֵי הָעָם שֶׁכָּכָה לּוֹ וְגוֹ'.

Therefore the words are joined one with another, and the words that are hidden in the Holy Ancient One, the Hidden of all hidden, are distinguished, and how these are joined with those. From here on, the words of the Small of Countenance — those that were not revealed in the Assembly, those that were hidden in my heart and were not set in order there (End of the hidden words) — now they are set in order and revealed; and all the words are hidden, and all of them are clear. Happy is my portion, and theirs who inherit this inheritance, as it is written, “Happy is the people that is in such a case,” etc. (Ps. 144, 15).

Segment 2ב׳

הַאי דְּאוֹקִימְנָא, אָב וָאֵם בְּעַתִּיקָא אֲחִידָן, בְּתִיקּוּנֹי, הָכִי הוּא. דְּהָא מִמּוֹחָא סְתִימָאָה דְּכָל סְתִימִין תַּלְיָין, (נ"א נפקין) וּמִתְאַחֲדָן בֵּיהּ. (ואף על גב דעתיקא קדישא אתתקן בלחודוי) וְכַד יִסְתַּכְּלוּן (בכל) מִלָּי. כֹּלָּא הוּא עַתִּיקָא בִּלְחוֹדוֹי, הוּא הֲוֵי, וְהוּא יְהֵא. וְכָל הָנֵי תִּקּוּנִין בֵּיהּ. (בס"י לא נמצא אחידן ביה סתימן לא מתפרשן מניה מוחא סתימאה לא אתגלייא ולא תליא ביה) אָ"ב וָאֵ"ם מֵהַאי מוֹחָא נַפְקוּ, אִתְכְּלִילוּ בְּמַזָּלָא, וּבֵיהּ תַּלְיָין, וּבֵיהּ אֲחִידָן. זְעֵיר אַנְפִּין, בְּעַתִּיקָא קַדִּישָׁא תַּלְיָיא וְאָחִיד. וְהָא אוֹקִימְנָא מִלֵּי בְּאִדָּרָא. זַכָּאָה חוּלָקֵיהּ דְּמַאן דְּעָאל וְנָפִיק, וְיִנְדַּע אוֹרְחִין דְּלָא יִסְטֵי לִימִינָא וְלִשְׂמָאלָא. וּמַאן דְּלָא עָאל וְנָפַק, טַב לֵיהּ דְּלָא אִבְרֵי. וּכְתִיב (הושע י״ד:י׳) כִּי יְשָׁרִים דַּרְכֵי יְיָ'.

That which we have explained, that Father and Mother are held in the Ancient One, in His adornments — so it is. For from the concealed brain, the hidden of all hidden, they hang (a variant reads: they go forth), and are joined with Him. (a variant adds: And although the Holy Ancient One was set in order alone.) And when they contemplate (a variant adds: all) the words: all is the Ancient One alone; He was, and He is, and He will be; and all these adornments are in Him. (in a variant text it is not found: they are held in Him; hidden, they are not separated from Him; the concealed brain is not revealed and does not hang on Him.) Father and Mother went forth from this brain, were included in the mazzal, and on it they hang, and in it they are held. The Small of Countenance hangs on the Holy Ancient One and is held in Him. And we have already explained the words in the Assembly. Happy is the portion of him who enters and comes out, and knows the paths, so that he does not turn aside to the right or to the left. And whoever does not enter and come out, it were better for him that he had not been created. And it is written, “For the ways of the Lord are right” (Hos. 14, 10).

אָמַר רִבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן, מִסְתַּכֵּל הֲוֵינָא כָּל יוֹמָא בְּהַאי קְרָא, דִּכְתִּיב, (תהילים ל״ד:ג׳) בַּיְיָ' תִּתְהַלֵּל נַפְשִׁי יִשְׁמְעוּ עֲנָוִים וְיִשְׂמָחוּ. וְהָאִידָּנָא אִתְקְיָים קְרָא כֹּלָּא. בַּיְיָ' תִּתְהַלֵּל נַפְשִׁי וַדַּאי, דְּהָא נִשְׁמָתִי בֵּיהּ אֲחִידָא, בֵּיהּ לַהֲטָא, בֵּיהּ אִתְדַבְּקַת וְאִשְׁתַּדְּלַת וּבְאִשְׁתַּדְּלוּתָא דָּא תִּסְתָּלַּק לְאַתְרָהָא. יִשְׁמְעוּ עֲנָוִים וְיִשְׂמָחוּ, כָּל הָנֵי צַדִּיקַיָּיא, וְכָל בְּנֵי מְתִיבְתָּא קַדִּישָׁא, וְזַכָּאִין דְּאַתְיָין הַשְׁתָּא עִם קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, כֻּלְּהוּ שַׁמְעִין מִלַּי, וְחַדָּאן. בְּגִין כַּךְ, (תהילים ל״ד:ד׳) גַּדְּלוּ לַיְיָ' אִתִּי וּנְרוֹמְמָה שְׁמוֹ יַחְדָּיו.

R. Simeon said: All my days I have contemplated this verse, as it is written, “My soul shall glory in the Lord; the humble shall hear it, and be glad” (Ps. 34, 3). And now the whole verse is fulfilled. “My soul shall glory in the Lord” — certainly, for my soul is held fast in Him, flames in Him, cleaves to Him and strives; and in this striving it will ascend to its place. “The humble shall hear it, and be glad”: all these righteous ones, and all the members of the holy Academy, and the righteous who come now with the Holy One, blessed be He — all of them hear my words and rejoice. Therefore, “O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together” (Ps. 34, 4).

פָּתַח וְאָמַר, כְּתִיב, (בראשית ל״ו:ל״א) וְאֵלֶּה הַמְּלָכִים אֲשֶׁר מָלְכוּ בְּאֶרֶץ אֱדוֹם. הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב, (תהילים מ״ח:ה׳) כִּי הִנֵּה הַמְּלָכִים נוֹעֲדוּ עָבְרוּ יַחְדָּיו. נוֹעֲדוּ, בְּאָן אֲתָר. בְּאֶרֶץ אֱדוֹם. בַּאֲתָר דְּדִינִין מִתְאַחֲדִין תַּמָּן. עָבְרוּ יַחְדָּיו, דִּכְתִּיב וַיָּמָת וַיִּמְלוֹךְ תַחְתָּיו. הֵמָּה רָאוּ כֵּן תָּמָהוּ נִבְהֲלוּ נֶחְפָּזוּ, דְּלָא אִתְקְיָימוּ בְּאַתְרַיְיהוּ, בְּגִין דְּתִקוּנִין דְּמַלְכָּא לָא אִתְּקָנוּ, וְקַרְתָּא קַדִּישָׁא וְשׁוּרוֹי, לָא אִזְדְּמָנוּ.

He opened and said: It is written, “And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom” (Gen. 36, 31). This is what is written, “For, lo, the kings assembled themselves, they passed away together” (Ps. 48, 5). “Assembled themselves” — in what place? In the land of Edom: in the place where judgements are joined together. “They passed away together” — as it is written, “and he died, and there reigned in his stead.” “They saw, straightway they were amazed; they were affrighted, they hastened away” — for they did not endure in their places, because the adornments of the King had not been set in order, and the holy city and its walls had not been prepared.

הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב, כַּאֲשֶׁר שָׁמַעְנוּ כֵּן רָאִינוּ וְגוֹ', דְּהָא כֻּלְּהוּ לָא אִתְקְיָימוּ, וְהִיא אִתְקַיְּימַת הַשְׁתָּא, בְּסִטְרָא דִּדְכוּרָא, דְּשַׁרְיָא עִמָּהּ. הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב, וַיִּמְלוֹךְ תַחְתָּיו הֲדַר וְשֵׁם עִירוֹ פָּעוּ וְשֵׁם אִשְׁתּוֹ מְהֵיטַבְאֵל בַּת מַטְרֵד בַּת מֵי זָהָב. מֵי זָהָב וַדַּאי כְּמָה דְּאוֹקִימְנָא בְּאִדָרָא.

This is what is written, “As we have heard, so have we seen,” etc. For none of them endured; and she endures now, on the side of the male who dwells with her. This is what is written, “and Hadar reigned in his stead; and the name of the city was Pau; and his wife's name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-zahab.” Me-zahab (waters of gold), certainly, as we have explained in the Assembly.
