Segment 1א׳

בְּחַלָלָא דְּגוּלְגַּלְתָּא, קְרוּמָא דַּאֲוִירָא דְּחָכְמְתָא עִלָּאָה סְתִימָה דְּלָא פָּסַק. וְהַאי לָא שְׁכִיחַ (קכ"ט), וְלָא אִתְפְּתַח. וְהַאי קְרוּמָא אִתְחַפְּיָיא עַל מוֹחָא דְּאִיהוּ חָכְמְתָא סְתִימָאָה. וּבְגִינֵי כַּךְ אִתְכַּסְּיָא (ס"א ובגין דאתכסיא) הַאי חָכְמְתָא בְּהַהוּא קְרוּמָא, דְּלָא אִתְפַּתְּחָא. (ס"א בגין דא אקרי חכמתא סתימאה).

In the hollow of the skull is the membrane of air of the supernal chochmah (wisdom), closed, which is not cut off. And this is not found (folio 129) and is not opened. And this membrane covers the brain, which is the hidden chochmah; and therefore this chochmah is covered (a variant reads: and because it is covered) by that membrane, which is not opened (a variant reads: for this reason it is called the hidden chochmah).

Segment 2ב׳

וְהַאי מוֹחָא, דְּאִיהוּ הַאי חָכְמְתָא סְתִימָאָה. שָׁקִיט וְאִשְׁתְּכִיךְ בְּאַתְרֵיהּ, כַּחֲמָר טַב עַל דּוּרְדְּיֵיהּ, וְהַיְינוּ דְּאָמְרֵי סָבָא דַּעְתּוֹי סָתִים, וּמוֹחֵיהּ סָתִים וְשָׁכִיךְ.

And this brain, which is this hidden chochmah, is quiet and still in its place, like good wine upon its lees. And this is what they say: the Elder — His knowledge is closed, and His brain is closed and still.

Segment 3ג׳

וְהַאי קְרוּמָא אִתְפְּסָק מִזְּעֵיר אַפִּין, וּבְגִינֵי כַּךְ מוֹחֵיהּ אִתְפְּשַׁט וְנָפִיק לִתְלָתִין וּתְרֵין שְׁבִילִין, הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב, (בראשית ב׳:י׳) וְנָהָר יוֹצֵא מֵעֵדֶן. מַאי טַעְמָא. מִשּׁוּם דִּקְרוּמָא אִתְפְּסָק, דְּלָא מְחַפְּיָא עַל מוֹחָא. (ועל כל פנים קרומא פסיק לתתא) וְהַיְינוּ דְּתָנֵינָן בְּרֵישׁוּמֵי אַתְוָון, תָּי"ו רָשִׁים רִישׁוּמָא לְעַתִּיק יוֹמִין דְּלֵית דִּכְוָותֵיהּ. (דביה תליא תמים דעות שלים מכל סטרוי וסתים ושכיך ושקיט כחמר טב על דורדייה)

And this membrane is cut off from the Small of Countenance, and therefore His brain spreads out and goes forth into thirty-two paths. This is what is written, “And a river went out of Eden” (Gen. 2, 10). What is the reason? Because the membrane is cut off, so that it does not cover the brain (a variant adds: and in any case the membrane is cut off below). And this is what we have learnt in the markings of the letters: Tau marks a mark for the Ancient of Days, like whom there is none (a variant adds: for on Him hangs “perfect in knowledge,” complete on all sides, and closed, and still, and quiet, like good wine upon its lees).
