תִּקּוּנָא תְּמִינָאָה דְּנַחְתִּין שַׂעְרֵי בִּתְחוֹת דִּיקְנָא, מְחַפְּיָין קְדָלָא דְּלָא אִתְחֲזֵי. דְּתַנְיָא, אֵין לְמַעְלָה לֹא עֹרֶף וְלֹא עִפוֹי, וּבְזִמְנָא דְּאַגָּח (ס"א דנצח) קְרָבֵי אִתְחֲזֵי. מִשּׁוּם לְאַחֲזָאָה גְּבוּרְתָּא. דְּהָא תָּנֵינָן, אֶלֶף עָלְמִין אִתְאַחֲדָין מִנֵּיהּ, הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב, (שיר השירים ד׳:ד׳) אֶלֶף הַמָּגֵן תָּלוּי עָלָיו כֹּל שִׁלְטֵי הַגִּבּוֹרִים. וְאֶלֶף הַמָּגֵן רָזָא הוּא. בִּצְנִיעוּתָא דְּסִפְרָא, כֹּל שִׁלְטֵי הַגִּבּוֹרִים דְּאָתוּ מִסְּטַר גְּבוּרָה חַד, מֵאִינּוּן גְּבוּרָאן.
The eighth adornment: that hairs descend beneath the beard, covering the neck, so that it is not seen. For it has been taught: above there is neither back nor weariness. And at the time when He wages (a variant reads: wins) battles, it is seen, in order to show might. For we have learnt: a thousand worlds are held from it. This is what is written, “whereon hang a thousand shields, all the armour of the mighty men” (S. S. 4, 4). And “a thousand shields” is a mystery. In the Book of the Hidden Mystery: “all the armour of the mighty men” — those that come from the side of one gevurah, of those powers.
