תִּקּוּנָא שְׁתִיתָאָה. נָפִיק שַׂעֲרָא, כְּחַד חוּטָא דְּשַׂעֲרֵי בְּסַחֲרָנֵיהּ דְּדִיקְנָא. (ס"א ותליין עד רישא דמעוי ולא נחית עד טבורא, תנא תקונא דא הוא דאקרי) פְּאַת הַזָּקָן וְאִיהוּ חַד מֵחָמֵשׁ פֵּאִין, דְּתַלְיָין בְּחֶסֶד (וברחמי), וְלָא אִבְעֵי לְחַבְּלָא הַאי חֶסֶד, כְּמָה דְּאִתְּמַר. וּבְגִין כַּךְ, (ויקרא י״ט:כ״ז) לֹא תַּשְׁחִית אֵת פְּאַת זְקָנֶךָ כְּתִיב.
The sixth adornment. The hair goes forth like one thread of hairs around the beard (a variant adds: and they hang down to the top of the belly and do not descend to the navel. It has been taught: this adornment is that which is called) “the corner of the beard”; and it is one of the five corners that hang on chesed (a variant adds: and on mercy), and one must not mar this chesed, as has been said. And therefore “You shall not mar the corner of your beard” (Lev. 19, 27) is written.
