Zohar, Ha'Azinu 7

Section 7 of 17 in Ha'Azinu — 3 segments

Segment 1

It has been taught: it is written, “Because I will call on the name of the Lord”. What is meant by “Because I will call on the name of the Lord”? R. Simeon said: ‘It is written, “ascribe greatness to our God”.’ R. Abba said: ‘“Ascribe greatness” — this is gedulah (greatness); “The Rock, His work is perfect” — this is gevurah (might); “for all His ways are judgement” — this is tiferet (beauty); “a God of faithfulness” — this is netzach (victory); “and without iniquity” — this is hod (majesty); “just” — this is yesod; “and right” — this is Zedek. All of it is the holy Name of the Holy One, blessed be He, and therefore “Because I will call on the name of the Lord”.’

Segment 2

R. Jose said: ‘The actual name of the Lord. And Moses at that hour revealed it to Israel, as it is written, “I am a hundred and twenty years old this day”, etc. (Deut. 31, 2). From here we learn that a worthy man in whom is supernal wisdom, when the day comes for him to depart from the world, must reveal that wisdom to those who have the holy spirit among them. How do we know it? From Moses, of whom it is written, “I am a hundred and twenty years old this day”; and it is written, “And now write for yourselves this song”, etc. (Ibid.).’

Segment 3

And if not, of him it is written, “Do not withhold good from him to whom it is due” (Prov. 3, 27), as it says, “For I give you good doctrine”, etc. (Prov. 4, 2). “When it is in the power of your hand to do it” (Prov. 3, 27) — before you depart from the world, and permission to reveal has not been given to you.
