Segment 1
R. Hiya said: ‘From this verse I have learnt supernal wisdom, and so it is. But the end of the verse ties the knot of faith, in what is written, “He”, as it says, “just and right is He”. That is to say, He is all; He is one, without division. For should you say that all these are many, Scripture turns and says “He”: they all ascend and are bound together and made one in one. And all of it: He was, and He is, and He shall be; and He is one. Blessed be His name for ever and to all eternity. Thus far the words are knit together, and the holy words of the Name of the Holy One, blessed be He, are made one.’

Happy is the portion of one who calls upon the King and knows how to call as is fitting. And if he calls and does not know whom he calls, the Holy One, blessed be He, is far from him, as it is written, “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him”, etc. (Ps. 145, 18). “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him” — to whom is He near? Scripture turns and says, “to all who call upon Him in truth”. And is there one who would call upon Him falsely? R. Abba said: ‘Yes: he who calls and does not know whom he calls. How do we know it? Because it is written, “to all who call upon Him in truth”. What is “in truth”? With the impress of the King’s signet, which is the completion of all. This is what is written, “You will give truth to Jacob, mercy to Abraham” (Micah 7, 20); and therefore it is written, “to all who call upon Him in truth”. Happy is the portion of one who has entered and come out, to know the ways of the Holy One, blessed be He. And of this it is written, “But the path of the righteous is as the light of dawn”, etc. (Prov. 4, 18); and it is written, “Your people also shall be all righteous”, etc. (Isa. 60, 21).’
