Segment 1
R. Judah said: ‘The Holy One, blessed be He, is called Heaven, and because He is called heaven, therefore all the seven firmaments which are included under this name when they are joined together are also called heaven and are called the name of the Holy One, blessed be He.’

As we have learnt: Vilon, Rakia, Shehakim, Zebul, Maon, Machon, Araboth. And in the Agadah of the school of Rab Hamnuna the Elder we have learnt so. R. Isaac said: ‘These Baraitoth of the school of Rab Hamnuna the Elder are so, and they are many, in all these varieties.’ As we have learnt, R. Simeon said: ‘We have learnt in those Baraitoth that over against all those seventy crowns of the King there are set seven firmaments, and seven stars that run and travel, and He calls them names by names. And although they are all set as thrones of the firmaments, of the seven stars — Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury, the Moon — these are set over against those in the concealment of words, with regard to those of whom it is written, “Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, stand up and save you” (Isa. 47, 13). All these words are concealed, although they are not the ways of the Torah; and we go after the ways of the Torah, as it is written, “and he called them by the names by which his father had called them” (Gen. 26, 18). As the Holy One, blessed be He, has spoken, so we go, and with Him we go, as it is written, “and you shall walk in His ways” (Deut. 28, 9).’
Segment 3
R. Jose said: ‘These words are plain to the Companions, and their meanings are recognised among them, although they are concealed.’ He said to him: ‘So indeed have we learnt, as R. Judah said in the name of R. Hiya further on. And so have I learnt from those Baraitoth: it has been taught that in the days of King Solomon the moon stood in her fullness, and in many places the words of those Baraitoth are recognised.’
