Section 6 of 12 in Chukat — 10 segments
Segment 1
AND THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, EVEN THE WHOLE CONGREGATION, CAME INTO THE WILDERNESS OF ZIN. R. Judah said: ‘Why is the section of the red heifer followed immediately by the statement of the death of Miriam? To show that just as judgement was executed on this heifer to purify the unclean, so judgement was executed on Miriam to purify the world. When Miriam departed, the well which accompanied Israel in the wilderness also departed. Therefore THERE WAS NO WATER FOR THE CONGREGATION, because the well had departed both above and below.
Segment 2
Then the right hand was broken, as it says, “Let Aaron be gathered to his people”, and finally the sun was darkened, when God said to Moses, “And die in the mountain”, etc.
Segment 3
"And there was no water for the community" (Numbers 20:2). As behold the higher Well and the lower well departed. Afterwards, the Right Arm was broken, as it is written (Numbers 20:24), "And Aharon shall be gathered to his people." And afterwards the Sun was darkened, as it is written (Deuteronomy 32:50), "And die on the mountain, etc. and be gathered unto your people, etc." The forearm of the Right Arm was broken; and the Body, which is the Sun, was darkened.
