Segment 1א׳

(במדבר כ״א:י״ח) בְּאֵר חֲפָרוּהָ שָׂרִים כָּרוּהָ נְדִיבֵי הָעָם, בְּאֵר, דָּא כְּנֶסֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל. חֲפָרוּהָ שָׂרִים, דָּא אַבָּא וְאִמָא, דְּאוֹלִידוּ לָהּ. כָּרוּהָ נְדִיבֵי הָעָם, אִלֵּין אֲבָהָן. דִּכְתִּיב, (תהילים מ״ז:י׳) נְדִיבֵי עַמִּים נֶאֱסָפוּ עַם אֱלֹהֵי אַבְרָהָם וְגוֹ'. בְּגִין לְאִתְבָּרְכָא מִנְּהוֹן, עַל יְדֵי דְּדַרְגָא חַד, וּמַנּוֹ. צַדִּיק דְּקָאִים עָלָה. וְעַל דָּא אַמְרֵינָן, כַּד הַאי בְּאֵר נַטְלָא, בְּסִיוּעָא דַּאֲבָהָן נַטְלָא.

“The well which the princes dug, which the nobles of the people delved” (Num. 21, 18). “The well” — this is the Community of Israel. “Which the princes dug” — this is the Father and the Mother, who begot her. “Which the nobles of the people delved” — these are the patriarchs, as it is written, “The nobles of the peoples are gathered together, the people of the God of Abraham,” etc. (Ps. 47, 10) — in order that she should be blessed from them, by means of one grade. And what is it? The Righteous One, who stands over her. And therefore we say: when that well journeys, it journeys with the support of the patriarchs.

Segment 2ב׳

וְאִקְרֵי בְּאֵר, וְאִקְּרֵי יָם. אִקְרֵי בְּאֵר, בְּשַׁעֲתָא דְּיִצְחָק נָפִק מִזַּיְינָא מִסִּטְרָא דְּאִימָא, וְאָתֵי לְאַמְשָׁכָא אֲבַּתְרָא דְּדָא, וּמַלֵּי לָהּ, כְּדֵין אִקְרֵי בְּאֵר דְּיִצְחָק. בְּאֵר דְּמִרְיָם. וְהָא אוּקְמוּהָ. יָם כַּד אִתְנַהֲרָא מִנָּהֲרָא עִלָּאָה דְּאַבָּא, כְּדֵין אִקְרֵי יָם, דְּנַחֲלִין אַזְלִין לְגַוָּוהּ, כְּמָה דְאַתְּ אָמֵר (קהלת א׳:ז׳) כָּל הַנְּחָלִים הוֹלְכִים אֶל הַיָּם וְהַיָּם אֵינֶנּוּ מָלֵא.

And she is called “well,” and she is called “sea.” She is called “well” at the hour when Isaac goes out armed from the side of the Mother and comes to draw after this one and fills her: then she is called the well of Isaac, the well of Miriam; and it has been explained. She is called “sea” when she is illumined from the supernal river of the Father: then she is called “sea,” for the streams go into her, as it says, “All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full” (Eccl. 1, 7).

וּמִיּוֹמָא דְּגָלְתָה כְּנֶסֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּגָלוּתָא, כְּתִיב (איוב י״ד:י״א) אָזְלוּ מַיִם מִנִּי יָם, דָּא כְנֶסֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל. וְנָהָר יֶחֱרָב וְיָבֵשׁ, דָּא צַדִּיק. וְעַל דָּא כְּתִיב, (ישעיהו נ״ז:א׳) הַצַּדִיק אָבָד וְגוֹ'. דְּהוּא הֲוָה נָהָר עִלָּאָה וְיַקִירָא, דְּעָיִיל בְּגַוָוהּ, וְהוּא כָּנִישׁ כָּל אִינּוּן נַהֲרִין וּנַחֲלִין, דְּנַגְדִּין מִנְּגִידוּ דְּהַהוּא נָהָר קַדִּישָׁא, דְּלָא פַּסְקִין מֵימוֹי לְעָלְמִין, דְּנָגִיד וְנָפִיק מֵעֵדֶן עִלָּאָה, וְהוּא עָיֵיל בְּגַוָּוהּ וּמַלֵּי אַגְמָהָא, וּמִתַּמָּן יָרְתִין עָלְמִין כֻּלְּהוּ (אתזנו וירתין) בִּרְכָּן בְּכֹלָּא.

And from the day the Community of Israel went into exile, it is written, “The waters fail from the sea” (Job 14, 11) — this is the Community of Israel; “and the river is drained dry” — this is the Righteous One. And therefore it is written, “The righteous perishes,” etc. (Isa. 57, 1). For he was the supernal and precious river that entered within her, and he gathers all those rivers and streams that flow from the flowing of that holy river whose waters never fail, which issues and goes out from supernal Eden; and he enters within her and fills her pools, and from there all the worlds inherit (a variant reads: are nourished and inherit) blessings in all.
