Section 5 of 27 in Beha'alotcha — 4 segments
Segment 1
R. Isaac discoursed on the verse: It is written, “I have surely built You a house of habitation, a place for You to dwell in for ever” (1 Kings 8, 13). Beth zebul — beth zebul assuredly. When all the treasures of the King were committed into her hand and she ruled over them, then she is called beth zebul. And there is one firmament that is called Zebul, for this one is found fit to receive blessings and to set all in order; and this one is called beth zebul.
Segment 2
Observe: it is written, “And of Zebulun he said: Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out, and Issachar, in your tents” (Deut. 33, 18) — teaching that they were joined together as one. This one goes out and wages war, and this one sits and labours in the Torah; and this one gives a portion to that one, and that one gives a portion to this one. In Zebulun’s portion is the sea, and the Community of Israel is called the Sea of Kinnereth. And so it is fitting, because the blue goes out from there, and it has been explained: below is after the pattern of above — the Sea of Kinnereth above, the Sea of Kinnereth below; blue above, blue below; and all in one place.
Segment 3
And therefore Zebulun inherited the going out to wage war. And how do we know that it is so? Because it is written, “They shall call peoples to the mountain; there they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness” (Deut. 33, 19) — sacrifices of righteousness assuredly. What is the reason? “For they shall suck the abundance of the seas.” And Issachar’s portion is in the Torah, and he gives Zebulun a portion of the Torah assuredly; and therefore they were joined together as one, so that Zebulun should be blessed from Issachar, for the blessing of the Torah is the blessing of all.
