The Zohar · Balak
Zohar, Balak 20
Section 20 of 47 in Balak — 8 segments
Segment 1
He then discoursed on the verse: “Therefore fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the Lord, neither be dismayed, O Israel… for I am with thee”, etc. (Jer. 30, 10, 11). ‘The word “thou” here’, he said, ‘contains a reference to the Ark of the Covenant, which is the grade that went into captivity with her sons, the holy people.
Segment 2
But thus said Moses: one grade that You gave me is called “You”, since it has no separation from You. The letter he that is hers cleaves to Israel. If You should destroy them from the world, then the he of this Name, which cleaves to them, is removed from it. If so, it is to me that You do this, for the he, the root of this Name, is uprooted.
Segment 3
And therefore Joshua said afterwards, “And what will You do for Your great name?” (Josh. 7, 9), for assuredly this Name is the root and the foundation of all: “You are the Lord”. And Moses, although the Holy One, blessed be He, did not tell him, knew it thus, for on this it hangs, and sin brings it about. “And you, fear not, My servant Jacob”, etc.: all is one. “For I am with you”: we have explained that it is not written “for you are with Me”, but “for I am with you”. “For I will make a full end of all the nations”, etc.: of all the nations I will make a full end.
