Segment 1

He said to him: (S. S. 7, 12) “Come, my beloved, let us go forth into the field” — go to the Holy One, blessed be He, to walk abroad, and let me not sit always in one place. And what is lamed-beth? He said to him: If so, Ben Zoma is outside, and you are with him. Lamed-beth (and it) is thirty-two; and they were closed, and by them the world was created. And what are the thirty-two? He said to him: the thirty-two paths.

Segment 2

A parable: to a king who was sitting in the innermost of chambers, and the number of the chambers is thirty-two. And to each one of the chambers there is a fair path for this king, to enter (all) into his chamber by way of paths. He said: It is not seemly for him not to reveal his pearls and his dwellings and his treasures and his precious things. You say: no. What did he do? He touched the daughter, and comprised in her all the paths and her garments; and whoever wishes to enter (a variant reads: to gaze into her eyes) within, let him look here. And she was married to the king; moreover, she was given to him as a gift. And at times, in his love, he calls her (daughter) “my sister,” for they were from one place; and at times he calls her “my daughter,” for she is his daughter; and at times he calls her “my mother.”

Segment 3

And further: there is no judgement if there is no wisdom, for it is said, (I Kings 5, 26) “And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom.” And afterwards he judged the judgement according to its measure, as it is written, (Kings 3) “And all Israel heard the judgement,” and so forth, “for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him,” and so forth.
