Segment 1

“And God said: Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed” — corresponding to the grade of binah, which is called Elohim; for since the supernal Mother saw them whole, she gave them luxuries from above, so that they might endure in the world.

Segment 2

Observe: to the primordial Adam the Holy One, blessed be He, gave every herb yielding seed, but He did not give him permission to eat beasts and the birds of the heaven; for it was revealed before Him that he was destined to be seduced by that serpent, which was more subtle than every beast of the field. The Holy One, blessed be He, said: I will remove it from him, and he shall have no dealings with it, nor with beasts, nor with birds — for the Holy One, blessed be He, lifted the stumbling-block away from before man, so that he might endure in the world.

Segment 3

But when Noah came, who is called righteous, what is written of him? (Gen. 8, 20) “And Noah built an altar to the Lord.” And we have explained: that altar upon which the first man had offered. This is what is written, “And he offered burnt-offerings on the altar” — written defective…
