Segment 1א׳

רעיא מהימנא אָמַר רַעְיָא מְהֵימָנָא, בְּהַהוּא זִמְנָא, אִלֵּין מָארֵי מַתְנִיתִין מָארֵי חָכְמְתָא עִלָּאָה, מָארֵי קַבָּלָה, מָארֵי רָזֵי תּוֹרָה, שַׁעֲתָא דְּחִיקַת לוֹן. וְהַאי אִיהוּ דְּאָמַר כְּאַיָּל תַּעֲרוֹג עַל אֲפִיקֵי מָיִם, דְּאִינּוּן אֲפִיקֵי מַיִם דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא לְגַבֵּי שְׁכִינְתָּא. וְלֵית תּוֹרָה, אֶלָּא עַמּוּדָא דְּאֶמְצָּעִיתָא. דִּיהוֹן אִלֵּין אֲפִיקֵי מַיִם, בְּצַּעֲרָא בִּיגוֹנָא בְּעַנְיוּתָא, וְאִלֵּין אִינּוּן חֲבָלִים צִּירִין דְּיוֹלֵדָה, דְּאִיהִי שְׁכִינְתָּא, דְּאִתְּמַר בָּהּ, (משלי כ״ג:כ״ה-כ״ו) וְתָגֵל יוֹלַדְתֶּךָ. וּבְאִינּוּן חֲבָלִים, תְּהֵא בְּצַּעֲרָא דִּלְהוֹן.

Ra'aya Meheimna. The Faithful Shepherd said: At that time these Masters of the Mishnah, masters of supernal wisdom, masters of Kabbalah, masters of the mysteries of the Torah — the hour presses them hard. And this is what is said, “As the hart pants after the water brooks”: those water brooks are the brooks of the Torah toward the Shekinah. And there is no Torah but the Central Column. For these water brooks shall be in affliction, in sorrow, in poverty; and these are the pangs and throes of her that gives birth, who is the Shekinah, of whom it is said, “and let her that bore you rejoice” (Prov. 23, 25). And in those pangs she shall share their affliction.

Segment 2ב׳

וּבְאִינּוּן חֲבָלִים דְּצַּוְוחַת בְּהוֹן, אִתְּעָרַת שִׁבְעִין סַנְהֶדְרִין דִּלְעֵילָּא, עַד דְּיִתְּעַר קוֹל דִּילָהּ עַד יְהוָֹ"ה, וּמִיַּד (תהילים כ״ט:ט׳) קוֹל יְיָ' יְחוֹלֵל אַיָּלוֹת, דְּאִינּוּן מָארֵי מַתְנִיתִין, (תהילים מ״ה:ט״ו) בְּתוּלוֹת אַחֲרֶיהָ רֵעוֹתֶיהָ, כֻּלְּהוֹן יִהוֹן לוֹן חִיל כַּיּוֹלֵדָה מַמָּשׁ, בְּדַחֲקִין, דְּדַחֲקָא לוֹן שַׁעֲתָא, בְּכַמָּה נְשִׁיכִין דְּיִצֶּר הָרָע, דְּחִוְיָא דְּנָשִׁיךְ לוֹן בְּכַמָּה דַּחֲקִין.

And in the pangs wherein she cries out, the seventy of the Sanhedrin above are roused, until her voice is roused up to the Tetragrammaton; and at once, “The voice of the Lord makes the hinds to travail” (Ps. 29, 9) — and these are the Masters of the Mishnah. “The virgins her companions in her train” (Ps. 45, 15): all of them shall have pangs like a woman in travail indeed, in the straits wherewith the hour presses them, with the many bitings of the evil inclination, of the serpent that bites them with many straits.

Segment 3ג׳

בְּהַהוּא זִמְנָא אִתְפַּתְּחַת לְאוֹלָדָא מְשִׁיחָא, בְּגִין חֲבָלִים וְדוֹחֲקִים דְּצַּדִּיקִים, וּמָארֵי מִדּוֹת, וּמָארֵי רָזִין דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא, מָארֵי בּוֹשֶת וַעֲנָוָה, מָארֵי יִרְאָה וְאַהֲבָה, מָארֵי חֶסֶד, אַנְשֵׁי חַיִל יִרְאֵי אֱלֹהִים, אַנְשֵׁי אֱמֶת, שׂוֹנְאֵי בָצַּע, דְּדַחֲקָא לוֹן שַׁעֲתָא. וְהַאי הוּא דְּאוּקְמוּהָ מָארֵי מַתְנִיתִין, דּוֹר שֶׁבֶּן דָּוִד בָּא, אַנְשֵׁי חַיִל יְסוֹבְבוּ מֵעִיר לָעִיר וְלָא יְחוֹנָנוּ, וְיִרְאֵי חֵטְא יִמָּאֲסוּ, וְחָכְמַת סוֹפְרִים תִּסְרַח, וּתְּהִי הָאֱמֶת נֶעְדֶּרֶת, וְהַגֶּפֶן תִּתֵּן פִּרְיָה, וְהַיַּיִן בְּיוֹקֶר.

At that time she is opened to give birth to the Messiah, because of the pangs and the straits of the righteous, and of the masters of good qualities, and the masters of the mysteries of the Torah, masters of shame and humility, masters of fear and love, masters of chesed, men of valour who fear God, men of truth who hate unjust gain, whom the hour presses hard. And this is what the Masters of the Mishnah have explained: in the generation in which the son of David comes, men of valour shall go round from city to city and shall find no favour; and those who fear sin shall be despised; and the wisdom of the scribes shall become corrupt; and truth shall be lacking; and the vine shall yield its fruit, and wine shall be dear.
