Se’if 1א׳
If the small intestines were perforated, it is a tereifah (an animal with a fatal defect); and even if the fluid within them seals them, that is not a sealing — and even if it is much stuck to them, so that it cannot be got out save with difficulty. And if clean fat seals it, it is fit; for all clean fat seals, and unclean fat does not seal, except for the membrane that is over the heart and the fat that is upon the large intestine (that is, the intestine that is attached at the anus), which, although they are clean, do not seal. And the fat of a wild animal, the like of which is forbidden in a domestic animal, does not seal; and as for a bird, all its fat seals. Hagah [Rema]: And it seals only in that limb to which the fat is attached by its formation; but if it seals a hole of another limb, that is not called a sealing, and it is a tereifah (Beit Yosef in the name of the Tosafot and the Rosh and the Rashba).
Se’if 2ב׳
If the small intestines came out and returned of themselves, it is fit. And if he returned them: if they were turned about, then even though they were not perforated, it is a tereifah, for it is impossible that they should return them as they were after they were turned about, and it cannot live. And the same law applies if they did not come out and were found turned about — it is a tereifah (the language of the Rambam, chapter 6 of the Laws of Slaughter, law 15). Hagah [Rema]: And likewise if the intestines were found between the skin and the flesh, and it was found sewn there, there is ground to be concerned that they came out and were turned about. But if no sewing was found there, and it was not evident there that it had been torn, and no defect at all was evident in it, it is fit (Issur v'Heter he'Aruch, klal 55, and the Hagahah of Shaarei Dura, siman 88, in the name of Raavyah).
Se’if 3ג׳
The hadra d'kanta, the coil of the small intestine (that is, the small intestines that go round about their own fat, which is called interiglia) — where one of them was perforated into its fellow, it is fit, for its fellow shields it. And it need not be said if it was perforated into the kanta, for the kanta is clean fat and it seals.
