Se’if 1א׳
If the spleen was removed, it is fit.
Se’if 2ב׳
The spleen: its one end is thick and the second is fine, like the form of a tongue. If it was perforated at the thick end with a hole that goes all the way through, it is a tereifah (an animal with a fatal defect); and if it was perforated with a hole that does not go all the way through, then if there remained beneath it the thickness of a gold dinar, it is permitted; less than this, behold it is as though it went all the way through, and it is a tereifah. But if the fine part was perforated, it is fit. Hagah [Rema]: And even if it was cut through at the fine place, it is fit (Tur). If the spleen was torn, or decayed, or was afflicted with a change in the flesh, its law is as though it had been perforated (Shearim and Hagahot Asheri); and likewise every place where the flesh is bad and has rotted, its law is as though it had been perforated. And if there is water in the spleen, even turbid and foul, if the flesh around it is whole, it is fit. (Beit Yosef in the name of the Mordechai and Hagahot Asheri, and see above, the end of siman 50.)
Se’if 3ג׳
There is one who has written that all that is attached to the paunch is called thick, and no more than that.
