Se’if 1א׳
Kilayim (the forbidden mingling of diverse kinds) of trees are included in what is said: "you shall not sow your field in mingled kinds" (Leviticus 19:19). How so? One who grafts tree onto tree — such as one who grafted a shoot of an apple onto an etrog (the citron), or an etrog onto an apple — this one is flogged by Torah law in every place, whether in the Land or outside the Land. And likewise one who grafts a vegetable onto a tree, or a tree onto a vegetable, is flogged in every place.
Se’if 2ב׳
It is forbidden for an Israelite to let an idolater (oved kokhavim — the standing term for a gentile) graft his tree for him as kilayim.
Se’if 3ג׳
It is permitted to sow seeds and the seed of a tree together. And likewise it is permitted to mix the seeds of trees and sow them together, for there is no kilayim with trees except grafting alone — whether a tree onto a vegetable, or a vegetable onto a tree, or a vegetable onto a vegetable that is not of its kind; and even a barren tree onto a food tree, or a food tree onto a barren tree.
