Se’if 1א׳
They do not sew a Torah scroll except with the sinews of a clean domestic or wild animal. And he shall not sew the whole sheet from its top to its bottom; rather he leaves a little at its top and a little at its bottom that is not sewn, and all the rest shall be sewn from top to bottom. And he sews on the outside (Terumat haDeshen, siman 50).
Se’if 2ב׳
He sets two rods in a Torah scroll, one at its beginning and one at its end; and whatever margin is left at its beginning and its end he wraps around the rods and sews with sinews, and there shall remain between the rod and the column two fingerbreadths. And in a time of pressing need, when it is not possible to sew it with sinews, if it was sewn with silk around the rods, they read in it. However, if it is possible to repair it with sinews, even though it has already been sewn with silk, they do not read in it until he repairs it (Terumat haDeshen, siman 51).
Se’if 3ג׳
If the greater part of the stitching between one sheet and the next tore, and they are still joined by five or six lasting stitches, it is fit (there, siman 50).
