Things that are peculiar to one of the kinds of idolatry that is in that place — it is forbidden to sell them to the worshippers of those idolatries that are in that place. And if he buys much at once, so that the thing is recognisable that he is buying them for merchandise, it is permitted. And likewise if he says that he needs them for other things, and the Israelite knows that it is as his words, it is permitted. And things that are not peculiar to it, they sell them without more. And if the idolater (oved kokhavim — the standing term for a gentile) states that he is buying them for an idol, it is forbidden to sell to him, unless he has disqualified them from being offered to an idol. Hagah [Rema]: It is forbidden to sell water to an idolater when they know that he wishes to make of it water for immersion. (Toldot Adam veChavah, netiv 17) If the peculiar things were mixed with things that are not peculiar — such as clear frankincense within black frankincense — he sells the whole without more, and we are not concerned lest he pick out the clear alone for an idol. And so with everything of the like. Hagah [Rema]: And this is specifically to a priest (of an idol), or to a gentile whose presumption is that he will burn the frankincense to an idol; but to a gentile without more, it is permitted. There are those who say that this, that it is forbidden to sell them things that pertain to their worship, is specifically where they have no others of the like, or where they are not able to buy in another place; but if they are able to buy in another place, it is permitted to sell them anything. (Mordechai, chapter 1 of Avodah Zarah) And there are those who are stringent. And they have been accustomed to be lenient in accordance with the first reasoning, and every man of scruple shall be stringent with himself. (the Ran, ibid., and in the Tosafot and Asheri and Hagahot Mordechai, chapter 1 of Shabbat, according to the view of the Rav)

Se’if 2ב׳

If the idolater goes about after things that are peculiar to an idol and contrives to include other things with them so that they shall not understand that he is buying for the need of an idol, it is forbidden to sell them to him.

Se’if 3ג׳

It is forbidden to sell wax to an idolater on the day of his festival. Hagah [Rema]: For it is his way to make of it candles for an idol; or on the day before it, but on the rest of the days it is permitted. (Mordechai, chapter 1 of Avodah Zarah) And see above, at the end of siman 139.
