Se’if 1א׳
One may not slaughter into a pit, even in the house. And if he did not wish to soil his house with blood, he makes a sloping place outside the pit and slaughters there, and the blood trickles and runs down into the pit. But in the market-place he should not do so.
Se’if 2ב׳
There are those who say that if he slaughtered into a pit in the market-place, it is forbidden to eat from his slaughter until they examine after him, lest he is an apikoros (one who has broken away from the teaching of the Sages). (Rambam, chapter 2 of the Laws of Slaughter, and Ittur) And there are those who say that it is permitted after the fact, and no examination is needed. (Rashba and Mordechai in the name of Re'em) Hagah [Rema]: And in this time, when it is not the way of idolaters to do so, one may permit after the fact. (Or Zarua, and in the Shechitot of ha-Ram of Medlingen)
