Se’if 1א׳

Since carrying was permitted for the sake of food preparation, it was also permitted for the sake of non-(food preparation), such as (for the sake of) a minor, a Lulav, a Sefer Torah, and vessels. Rema: (Provided) that one needs them a bit, or if one is afraid lest they be stolen or suffer some other loss (Hagahot Semak & R. Yerucham) but (carrying) stones and the like is prohibited. Rema: And it is permitted to play with a ball, even in the public domain, despite the fact that it is mere recreation (Tosafot & R. Yerucham). And if one established a "eruv" it is permitted to handle and carry anything that is considered a vessel, even though it has no need that day at all (Ran, Beitzah Chapter 2).

Se’if 2ב׳

It is forbidden for an Israelite to carry anything out on a festival day for the needs of a gentile. Hagah [Rema]: But it is permitted to send it to him by means of a gentile — for instance, where he needs to return a pledge to a violent gentile, and whatever is like this (Mordechai, end of the first chapter of Beitzah, and Beit Yosef in the name of the Tosafot, first chapter of Ketubot).

Se’if 3ג׳

One who took a piece of wood that is not designated for a spit and roasted meat on it — it is forbidden to handle it afterwards, since it is not a vessel; rather he slips it out and lays it in a corner so that people should not be harmed by it, even if there is no meat on it at all. Hagah [Rema]: And for the needs of food, it is permitted to handle anything, even muktzeh (set aside before the day of rest, and so not to be handled on it) (the Rambam, chapter 1, and Mordechai, beginning of chapter "With all things one may make an eruv").
