Se’if 1א׳
The toladot (derivative categories) of the pit, such as his stone, his knife and his burden that did damage; it contains seven se'ifim. The toladot of the pit — his stone, his knife and his burden and the like, which he left in the public domain and they did damage in their place, whether he declared them ownerless or did not declare them ownerless; or he left them at the top of his roof and they fell by an ordinary wind and did damage in their place after they had come to rest — for this is like a pit: his property that damages in the place where it lies. Therefore it has all the laws of the pit: to make him liable for full damage from the outset, for the death of an animal or its injury, and for damages to a man — whether he stumbled on the stone and was injured by the stone, or stumbled on the ground and was injured by the stone; but if he stumbled on the stone and was injured by the ground, he is exempt; (and exempt) for it from the death of a man and from damages to vessels. And likewise, if he left them in his own domain and declared his domain ownerless but did not declare them ownerless, and one stumbled on the ground and was damaged by this obstacle, and was injured, the owner of the obstacle is liable.
Se’if 2ב׳
And if they fell by an unusual wind and did damage at the time of falling, or even after falling, so long as he had no time to remove them, he is exempt; but after that he is liable; and if he declared them ownerless, he is exempt even after that.
Se’if 3ג׳
If he left them in the public domain and they did not do damage in their place, but rolled to another place by the feet of a man or the feet of an animal: if they did damage in the course of their going by the feet of a man, the one who rolled them is liable for all, for he is negligent in this damage, and the owner of the obstacle is exempt.
