Se’if 1א׳

An animal that fell into a garden and damaged, and how the damage is assessed; it contains six se'ifim. An animal that slipped on a stone or on urine and fell into a garden, and was flattened on produce and vegetables, or ate — he pays what it benefited; and even if it went from bed to bed, and even if it remained there the whole day long, he pays only what it benefited. And what benefit has it in the flattening? That it found a soft place and its limbs were not crushed. But if it went down in its usual way and ate, he pays what it damaged; and even if it soiled produce with the waters of birth, he pays what it damaged, because it began in negligence. And likewise if its companion pushed it and it fell, he pays what it damaged, because he should have taken them across one by one, so that they would not push one another (and so is the view of the Rif). Hagah [Rema]: And some say that if its companion pushed it, it is not called negligence but is a mishap, and he is exempt (Tur, se'if 4, in the name of the Ri, the Ramah and the Rosh). If he took it across beside his fellow's garden, and it was possible for it to go down and enter the garden, even if it fell by mishap he is liable, for it began in negligence and ended in mishap (Tur, se'if 1, and the Tosafot and the Rosh); and there is one who disagrees with this (Beit Yosef in the name of the Rashba, in the name of the Raavad).

Se’if 2ב׳

If it slipped and fell and went out (and he knew) (Tur, se'if 2), and it returned to the garden, even though it returned without the owner's knowledge, he pays what it damaged, because he should have guarded it so that it would not return; for it is a known thing that once it knows the way to the garden it will return of itself. Hagah [Rema]: However, if he guarded it with excellent guarding and it went out and damaged, he is exempt (Tur).

Se’if 3ג׳

One who stands his fellow's animal on his fellow's standing grain — the one who stood it there must pay what it damaged. And likewise if he struck it (that is, hit it) until it went into his fellow's standing grain and damaged, this one who struck it is liable. Hagah [Rema]: And even if the produce was in the public domain, for he is as one who damages with his hands (the Maggid Mishneh, chapter 4 of the Laws of Damage to Property, and Beit Yosef in the name of the Rashba). And specifically where he struck it, or the like; but if he stood before it until it went there, he is exempt, for it is indirect causation in damages (the Maggid there, and not as the view of the Raavad).
