שלא לרמות במדה ובמשקל כיצד יעשה אותם וכיצד ישקול וחייבים להעמיד ממונים על המדות ועל השערים. ובו כה סעיפים: המודד או שוקל חסר לחבירו או אפילו לעכו"ם עובר בלאו דלא תעשו עול במדה במשקל ובמשורה:
Not to deceive in measure and in weight: how they should be made, and how he should weigh; and they are obliged to appoint officers over the measures and over the prices; it contains twenty-five se'ifim. One who measures or weighs short for his fellow, or even for a gentile, transgresses the negative commandment "you shall do no unrighteousness in measure, in weight, or in capacity" (Leviticus 19:35).
Se’if 2ב׳
חייבים ב"ד להעמיד ממונים שיהיו מחזרים על החניות וכל מי שנמצא אתו מדה חסרה או משקל חסר או מאזנים מקולקלים רשאים להכותו ולקנסו כאשר יראה לב"ד:
The court is obliged to appoint officers who go round the shops; and whoever is found to have a short measure, or a short weight, or faulty scales, they may strike him and fine him as the court sees fit.
Se’if 3ג׳
אסור לאדם להשהות מדה חסרה [בביתו] אפי' שאינו מודד בה ואפי' לעשות עביט של מי רגלים שמא יבא מי שאינו יודע וימדוד בה ואם יש מנהג בעיר שאין מודדים אלא במדה הרשומה ברושם הידועה וזו אינה רשומה מותר להשהותה:
It is forbidden for a man to keep a short measure in his house, even if he does not measure with it, and even to make it a chamber-pot for urine, lest someone come who does not know and measure with it. And if there is a custom in the town that they measure only with a measure stamped with the known stamp, and this one is not stamped, it is permitted to keep it.

מכמה עושים המדות מסאה וחצי סאה ורובע סאה קב וחצי הקב ורובע הקב וחצי רובע הקב ושמינית רובע הקב אבל לא יעשה קביים שלא תתחלף ברובע הסאה שהוא קב ומחצה ומדות הלח עושין הין וחצי הין ושלישית הין ורביעית הין ולוג וחצי לוג ורביעית הלוג ושמינית ואחד משמונה בשמינית:
What measures do they make? A se'ah, half a se'ah and a quarter-se'ah; a kav, half a kav, a quarter-kav, half a quarter-kav and an eighth of a quarter-kav. But he shall not make a two-kav measure, lest it be confused with the quarter-se'ah, which is a kav and a half. And of liquid measures they make a hin, half a hin, a third of a hin and a quarter of a hin; a log, half a log, a quarter-log, an eighth, and one eighth of an eighth.

אין עושים המחק (פי' כעין מטה שמעבירין ע"פ המדה למוחקה) מדלעת מפני שהוא קל ורע למוכר ולא משל מתכת מפני שהוא כבד ורע ללוקח אלא עושין משל אגוז שקמה ואשכרוע (פי' מין עץ בוס"ו בלע"ז) ואין עושין אותו מצד אחד עב ומצד אחד קצר ולא ימחוק מעט מעט מפני שהוא מפחית ללוקח ולא ימחוק בבת אחת [במהירות] מפני שהוא מפחית למוכר אלא בפעם אחת במתון:
They do not make the leveller (that is, something like a rod that they pass over the mouth of the measure to level it) of gourd, because it is light and bad for the seller; nor of metal, because it is heavy and bad for the buyer; but they make it of walnut, of sycamore, or of boxwood (that is, a kind of wood, bosso in the vernacular). And they do not make it thick on one side and thin on the other. And he shall not level little by little, because that reduces it for the buyer; nor level at one stroke, quickly, because that reduces it for the seller; but in one stroke, deliberately.
