Defilement by a Corpse 6
Chapter 6 of 25 in Defilement by a Corpse — 9 halachot
Halacha 1
The bones of a fish and its skin, from which one makes vessels, do not receive impurity at all, neither by the words of the Torah nor by the words of the Scribes. So too the green growth upon the face of the water and the like; for everything that is in the sea is pure, as will be explained in the Laws of Vessels. Therefore one who makes a tent of a fish's skin, or of wool that grows in the sea — the substance of this tent does not receive impurity, even though it brings the impurity upon all that is beneath it, like the other tents.
Halacha 2
Vessels of dung, vessels of stone and vessels of earth do not receive impurity, neither by the words of the Torah nor by the words of the Scribes, whether corpse-impurity or the other impurities. So too wooden vessels made to remain in place, such as a chest, a cupboard and a beehive, which hold forty se'ah of liquid and have a bottom, do not receive impurity at all, neither by the words of the Torah nor by the words of the Scribes; and these are what are called wooden vessels of large capacity.
Halacha 3
As for wooden vessels, the flat ones among them are pure and those that hold something are impure. As for earthenware vessels, the flat ones among them are pure and those that hold something are impure; and they become impure only through their airspace, or by the shifting of a man with a flux. Even if an earthenware vessel touched a corpse on its outer side, it does not become impure; and if one of the impurities entered its airspace, even though it did not touch it, it has become impure. If an earthenware vessel was with a corpse under a tent, it has become impure, since the impurity entered its airspace. And if it was closed with a tightly sealed cover, it and what is within it are pure, as is set out explicitly in the Torah; for no impurity enters it except through its opening, and by the shifting of a man with a flux, since that is as though he had touched the whole of it.
