Section 4 of 36 in Vayera — 31 segments
Segment 1
Sitrei Torah (the secrets of the Torah). The King’s authority is seen in three colours. The first colour: an appearance that shows itself to the eye from afar, and the eye cannot hold steady in the clarity of what it sees, because it is far off — until the eye takes in a small appearance in its contraction. And therefore it is written: “From afar the Lord appeared to me” (Jer. 31, 3).
Segment 2
The second colour: the appearance of this eye in its closing; for this colour is not seen by the eye save in a slight closing that it takes in, and it does not hold steady in clarity. The eye closes and opens a little and takes in that appearance; and this colour requires an interpretation, to establish what the eye has taken in. And therefore it is written: “What do you see?” (Ibid. 1).
Segment 3
The third colour is a radiance of the mirror, in which nothing at all is seen except in the rolling of the eye, when it is shut in its closing and they roll it in a rolling; and in this rolling there is seen the mirror that shines. And one cannot hold steady in that colour, save that he sees a radiance shining in the closing of the eye.
