Segment 1א׳

בְגִין כָּךְ וַיְיָ אָמָר הַמְכַסֶּה אֲנִי מֵאַבְרָהָם אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי עוֹשֶׂה. רַבִּי חִיָּיא פָּתַח (עמוס ג׳:ז׳) כִּי לא יַעֲשֶׂה יְיָ אֱלהִים דָּבָר כִּי אִם גָּלָה סוֹדוֹ אֶל עֲבָדָיו הַנְּבִיאִים. זַכָּאִין אִנּוּן זַכָּאֵי עָלְמָא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא אִתְרָעֵי בְּהוּ, בְּכָל מַה דְּאִיהוּ עָבִיד בָּרְקִיעָא וְזַמִּין לְמֶעְבַּד בְּעָלְמָא, עַל יְדֵי דְּזַכָּאִין עֲבִיד לֵיהּ, וְלָא כַּסֵּי מִנַּיְיהוּ לְעָלְמִין כְּלוּם.

AND THE LORD SAID, SHALL I HIDE FROM ABRAHAM THAT WHICH I AM DOING? R. Hiya quoted here the verse: For the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his counsel unto his servants the prophets (Amos 3, 7). ‘Happy,’ he said, ‘are those pious ones of the world in whom the Holy One finds delight, and whom He uses as His agents for all that He does in heaven or intends to do in this world, not hiding anything from them.

Segment 2ב׳

בְּגִין דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא בָּעֵי לְשַׁתָּפָא בַּהֲדֵיהּ (לצדיקיא דלא תהא פתחון פה לרשיעייא בכל מה דאיהו עביד. תא חזי, כלא גלי קודשא בריך הוא) לְצַדִּיקַיָא בְּגִין דְּאִנּוּן אַתְיָין וּמַזְהִירִין לִבְנֵי נָשָׁא לְאֲתָבַא מֵחוֹבַיְיהוּ וְלָא יִתְעַנְשׁוּן מִגּוֹ דִּינָא עִלָּאָה וְלָא יְהֵא לוֹן פִּתְחָא דְפוּמָא לְגַבֵּיהּ. בְּגִינֵי כָךְ קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא אוֹדַע לוֹן רָזָא דְּאִיהוּ עָבִיד בְּהוּ דִינָא. תּוּ בְּגִין דְּלָא יֵימְרוּן דְּהָא בְּלָא דִינָא עֲבִיד בְּהוּ דִּינָא.

For the Holy One desires to associate with Himself the righteous so that they may admonish and call the people to repentance in order that they may escape the punishment decreed by the judgement-seat on high, and, in any case, so that they should not be left with any loophole for complaining that the Holy One metes out punishment without justice.’

Segment 3ג׳

אָמַר רַבִּי אֶלְעָזָר וַוי לוֹן לְחַיָּיבַיָא דְּלָא יָדְעִין וְלָא מַשְׁגִּיחִין וְלָא יָדְעִין לְאִסְתַּמְּרָא מֵחוֹבַיְיהוּ. וּמַה קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא דִּי כָּל עוֹבָדוֹהִי קְשׁוֹט וְאוֹרְחָתֵיהּ דִּין. לָא עָבִיד כָּל מַה דְּעֲבִיד בְּעָלְמָא עַד דְּגָלֵי לְהוּ לְצַדִּיקַיָיא בְּגִין דְלָא יְהֵא לוֹן פִּתְחָא דְפוּמָא לִבְנֵי נָשָׁא. (כאן שייך מה שבסוף הספר סימן ח"י, עי' לקמן דף ק"ו ע"א ותמצאנו שם) גַּבֵּי בְּנֵי נָשָׁא לא כָל שֶׁכֵּן דְּאִית לוֹן לְמֶעְבַּד מִלַּיְיהוּ דְּלָא יְמַלְּלוּן בְּנֵי נָשָׁא סִטְיָא עֲלֵיהוֹן. וְכֵן כְּתִיב, (במדבר ל״ב:כ״ב) וִהְיִיתֶם נְקִיִּים מֵיְיָ וּמִיִּשְׂרָאֵל.

R. Eleazar said: ‘Woe to the guilty who are steeped in ignorance and refrain not from sin. Now, seeing that the Holy One, whose acts are truth and whose ways are justice, nevertheless does not execute His designs in the world before He reveals His intent to the righteous, so as not to give occasion to mankind for censuring His acts, how much more must the sons of men be on their guard so to act as not to leave any room for others to spread evil rumours against them. So it is written: “And ye shall be clean before the Lord and before Israel” (Num. 32, 22).
