Segment 1א׳

וְעֵינֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כָּבְדוּ מִזֹּקֶן וְגו', וּבְגִין דָּא, לָא אַתְּ מַשְׁכַּח דְּכַוָּותֵיהּ, וְכַד יְהוֹן בְּגָלוּתָא כָּל זִמְנָא חֲרוּבָא הָדִין, סִיבוּ. לָא יָכְלִין לְמֶחזֵי אַפֵּי שְׁכִינְתָּא, עַד דְּתֵיתֵי רוּחָא אָחֳרָא בְּהוֹן.

AND THE EYES OF ISRAEL WERE DIM FOR AGE, ETC. And because of this you do not find the like of him; and when they are in exile, all the time of this desolation, there is old age. They cannot see the face of the Shekinah until another spirit comes into them.

Segment 2ב׳

מִקַּדְּמַת דְּנָא אִסְתָּאִיבוּ בַּאֲרַע עַמְּמַיָא, וְלָא הֲווּ בְּנִימוּסֵי אוֹרַיְיתָא. כְּמָּה דִּיְהוֹן כָּהִיל לְמֵיהַךְ, וְתָבוּ עִדָּנָא סַגֵּי בֵּינִי נְכְרָאִין, דָּרָא בָּתַר דָּרָא, וְאוֹלִיפוּ מִן אָרְחֵיהוֹן, כַּד יְתוּבוּן אַפֵּי שְׁכִינְתָּא לְאַרְעֲהוֹן, בְּקַדְמִיתָא לָא יָכְלִין לְמֶחמֵי אַפִּי שְׁכִינְתָּא, עַד דְּיָהִיב קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא רוּחָא דִילֵיהּ לְהוֹן.

In former times they were defiled in the land of the nations, and were not in the precepts of the Torah, as far as they were able to walk in them; and they dwelt a long season among strangers, generation after generation, and learned from their ways. When they return — the face of the Shekinah — to their land, at first they cannot see the face of the Shekinah, until the Holy One, blessed be He, gives them His own spirit.

Segment 3ג׳

רִבִּי חִיָּיא פָּתַח, (יחזקאל ל״ו:כ״ז) וְאֶת רוּחִי אֶתֵּן בְּקִרְבְּכֶם, לְבָתַר וְעָשִׂיתִי אֶת אֲשֶׁר בְּחוּקַּי תֵּלֵכוּ וּמִשְׁפָּטַי תִּשְׁמְרוּ וַעֲשִׂיתֶם, מִן בָּתַר דְּיָהַב רוּחִין בְּכוֹן וּקְדוּשָּׁה, בְּנִימוּסַי תֵּהֲכוּן וְתִתְהֲכוּן.

R. Hiya discoursed: “And I will put My spirit within you” (Ezek. 36, 27), and afterwards, “and I will cause you to walk in My statutes, and you shall keep My ordinances and do them.” After He has given spirits within you, and holiness — you shall walk in My statutes and be made to walk in them.

Segment 4ד׳

לֹא יוּכַל לִרְאוֹת, רִבִּי אַבָּא פָּתַח וְאָמַר, (משלי ט״ז:ט״ו) בְּאוֹר פְּנֵי מֶלֶךְ חַיִּים וּרְצוֹנוֹ כְּעָב מַלְקוֹשׁ, כַּד יִסְּבְּרוּן אַפֵּי שְׁכִינְתָּא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, וְיִתְעַסְּקוּן בְּאִינוּן רְתִיכִין דְּמִנְּהוֹן חֵיוָון דְּעָלְמָא.

HE COULD NOT SEE. R. Abba discoursed on the verse: “In the light of the king’s face is life, and his favour is like a cloud of the latter rain” (Prov. 16, 15) — when they look upon the face of the Shekinah of the Holy One, blessed be He, and occupy themselves with those chariots from which come the Hayyoth (living creatures) of the world.

Segment 5ה׳

תָּא חֲזֵי, לָא תִשְׁכַּח בְּהַנֵּי קְרָאֵי כֻּלְּהוֹן לִישְׁנָא, אֶלָא לְאִינִישׁ, (תהילים ע״א:כ״ד) גַּם לְשׁוֹנִי כָּל הַיּוֹם תֶּהגֶה צִדְקָתֶךָ. וְלָא אַתְּ מַשְׁכַּח בְּהַנֵּי קְרָאֵי בְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, וּבְגִין כַּךְ יְתוּבוּן לְאַרְעֲהוֹן, וְיָהַב קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא רוּחַ חָכְמְתָא בְּהוֹן, לִישְׁנָא דִּלְהוֹן תֶּהֶוְיָין תָּדִיר בְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא. (עד כאן אינו מן הזהר):

Observe: you will not find in all these verses the tongue ascribed to any but man: “My tongue also shall speak of Your righteousness all the day long” (Ps. 71, 24); and you do not find it in these verses of the Holy One, blessed be He. And therefore they shall return to their land, and the Holy One, blessed be He, shall put a spirit of wisdom in them, and their tongue shall be continually upon the Holy One, blessed be He. (Thus far is not from the Zohar.)
