Section 14 of 86 in Vayechi — 9 segments
Segment 1
AND JOSEPH SAID TO HIS FATHER: THEY ARE MY SONS, WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME IN THIS. R. Simeon taught from here: “And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel” (Deut. 4, 44). It speaks of Israel below, when Israel above are over them: They are my sons, for the Holy One, blessed be He, gave me the Torah; how upright are they and their precepts, in the precepts of the Torah which was given to them. Observe: when Israel are under the wings of the Shekinah, their Torah is called zeh, as it is written: “This is my God and I will glorify Him” (Ex. 15, 2). And whenever David did not speak this thing under the wings of the Shekinah, but prophesied what was to be, it is called zoth.
Segment 2
Rab Nahman said: From here — “Though a host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear, etc.; in this (bezoth) I am confident” (Ps. 27, 3). Zoth: this is the Torah, which shall be at the coming of the Messiah. And therefore, “and the voice of the turtle-dove is heard in our land” (S. S. 2, 12). To what is the Torah likened? To a young bird. As the young bird’s voice is sweet, so the words of the Torah — their voice is sweet. And this voice shall be at the coming of the Messiah, for the day of judgement.
Segment 3
It has been taught: “The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing is come, and the voice of the turtle-dove is heard in our land.” The flowers: these are our fathers, who are of the Chariot, who shall rise from the world and be seen.
